Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

Six months later.

The federal trial of the century had finally concluded. Victor Hartman was sentenced to consecutive life terms in maximum-security federal prison for treason, racketeering, and attempted murder. Gregory Hartman, stripped of his wealth, legacy, and pride, received a fifteen-year sentence for his role in domestic abuse, conspiracy, and corporate fraud.

My annulment was granted, completely wiping the Hartman name from my life.

I stood on the balcony of a beautiful oceanfront home in Charleston, South Carolina—a house I had bought with my own earned income, far away from the toxic influence of Miami's corporate elite.

The morning sun rose over the Atlantic Ocean, casting golden light across the calm water.

I wasn't hiding anymore. I no longer felt the need to suppress who I was. I didn't need to hide my past as a Marine to fit into a world of designer heels, nor did I need to live in constant combat readiness. I had found the balance between the strength within me and the peace I deserved.

I had opened a specialized self-defense academy for women, dedicated to teaching survivors how to reclaim their power, defend themselves, and realize that no matter how trapped they feel, they always have the strength to fight back.

My phone chimed on the table beside me. It was a message from Marcus:

“First class of recruits starts today, Coach Vance. They’re ready for you.”

I smiled, looking out at the endless sea. I took a deep breath of the fresh ocean air, feeling lighter than I had in years.

I put on my jacket, walked down the stairs, and headed toward the gym.

I had survived the storm. I had fought my battles. And now, for the first time in my life, I was finally writing my own story—a story of victory, strength, and true, unshakeable freedom.
