Chapter 7 - The Lake Geneva Villa

Three months later.
The summer sunset over Lake Geneva was a breathtaking canvas of deep violet, gold, and indigo.
The villa Julian had bought was a stunning two-story stone house nestled on a terraced hillside surrounded by ancient vineyards and wild lavender. It had grand arched windows that opened directly onto a private stone terrace overlooking the calm, mirror-like surface of the lake.
I stood on the terrace, wearing a simple white linen dress, watching the sailboat lights twinkling across the water in the twilight.
Behind me, I heard the soft sound of Julian’s footsteps crossing the stone tiles. He stepped up behind me, wrapping his strong arms around my waist, resting his chin gently on my shoulder. His warmth enveloped me, filling the cool evening air with a sense of absolute security.
"What are you thinking about?" Julian murmured softly against my skin.
"I was thinking about two years ago," I said softly, laying my hands over his. "About how I thought my life was over when I was lying under that bed in San Francisco."
Julian shifted slightly, turning me in his arms so that I was facing him. His dark eyes searched my face in the fading light, filled with a deep, unshakeable devotion.
"That wasn't the end of your life, Hannah," Julian said gently. "That was just the moment you woke up."
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, dark velvet box.
My breath caught in my throat. My heart began to hammer—not with fear, but with a profound, beautiful anticipation.
Julian didn't drop to one knee. He didn't make a grand, theatrical spectacle. He simply held the open box between us, revealing a breathtaking ring—a rare, radiant-cut blue sapphire set in a band of hand-carved platinum, surrounded by microscopic, sparkling diamonds.
"This sapphire came from your father’s personal collection in Zurich," Julian said softly, his voice thick with emotion. "Arthur held it for years, waiting for the right man to give it to you. I spent three months designing the band myself."
He looked into my eyes, his grip on my hand steady and warm.
"I don't offer you an empire, Hannah. I don't offer you grand promises or corporate shields. I offer you my absolute honesty, my complete respect, and a lifetime of standing beside you as your equal. Will you marry me?"
Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness welled in my eyes, spilling softly down my cheeks.
I looked at the blue sapphire—a piece of my father’s heart, set in a band built by the man who had protected my life.

"Yes," I whispered, my voice breaking with emotion. "Yes, Julian. Absolutely yes."
Julian slid the ring onto my finger. It fit perfectly. He pulled me into his arms, lifting me slightly as his lips found mine in a deep, passionate kiss that echoed across the silent, moonlit lake.
