Chapter 7 - The Hunt on Lake Michigan

Realizing the game was up, Julian sprinted toward his private garage, leaping into a high-powered armored boat docked at his private pier on Lake Michigan. He intended to escape to international waters where his money could buy him immunity.
"He's getting away!" Leo yelled as they ran down to the marina.
"Not today!" Detective Reed pulled up in his unmarked police cruiser, slamming on the brakes. "Get in!"
They chased Julian's boat along the stormy shoreline. Rain poured down in sheets, lightning illuminating the violent waves.
Julian fired several shots from his boat back toward the shoreline, striking the cruiser's tires. The car spun out, crashing against the wooden pier railing.
Leo unbuckled his seatbelt, grabbed a nearby marine rope, and sprinted onto a high-speed police interceptor jet ski docked at the edge of the pier.
"Leo, no! It's too dangerous!" Clara screamed over the storm.
"I lost you once, Clara!" Leo yelled back, revving the powerful engine. "I'm never letting him hurt you again!"

Leo tore across the choppy black water, cutting through the waves toward Julian's speeding yacht.
As a massive wave lifted the jet ski, Leo leapt off, slamming onto the stern of Julian’s boat just as a bolt of lightning split the night sky.
