Chapter 7 - The Final Trap

Happiness, however, was a threat to those who fed on chaos.

Six months after the wedding, life at the Voss estate had achieved a beautiful, harmonious rhythm. Elena was officially recognized worldwide as Mrs. Elena Voss. She had launched a foundation dedicated to protecting vulnerable surrogates and auditing private medical facilities, using the Voss legal empire to dismantle fraudulent clinics across the country.

The triplets were now twenty months old—talking in short, adorable sentences, running around the estate’s manicured lawns, and completely devoted to both their mother and father. Caden had transformed into a fiercely loving father and an utterly devoted husband. The coldness that once defined his persona had melted away, replaced by an intense, protective warmth for his family.

Then came the day of Harrison Sterling’s trial sentencing.

Harrison had been found guilty on all counts, facing thirty years in a maximum-security federal prison. But on the morning he was to be transported to the facility, an unexpected crisis struck.

A rogue faction of Harrison’s former security network—led by his former chief lieutenant, a dangerous ex-mercenary named Knox—executed a daring ambush on the prison transport vehicle, breaking Harrison out of custody.

The news broke at 2:00 PM.

Within seconds, the Voss estate was placed on absolute lockdown. Security blast shutters descended over all windows, armed guards lined the perimeter walls, and Ortega personally mobilized a heavy-tactical unit around the property.

Inside the command center of the estate, Caden stood surrounded by tactical monitors, his face carved from ice once more.

“Where is he?” Caden demanded into his secure radio.

“He’s on the move, sir,” Marcus reported from the city legal center. “Knox has a private helicopter waiting at the old naval shipyard. But Caden... we intercepted an encrypted communication from Knox’s unit ten minutes ago.”

Caden’s eyes narrowed. “What did it say?”

“Harrison isn’t trying to flee the country alone,” Marcus said, his voice grave. “He’s insane, Caden. He blames Elena for his ruin. He told Knox he won’t leave without taking something that belongs to you. He’s targeting the estate.”

Before Caden could respond, the estate’s secondary alarm klaxons blared.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

Explosions rocked the outer gates at the base of the cliffs. The tactical monitors flickered as two heavy armored vehicles rammed through the outer perimeter, bypassing the electrical grids with military-grade EMP jammers.

“They’re inside the perimeter!” Ortega shouted, drawing his sidearm. “All units, fall back to the main house!”

Caden grabbed a tactical sidearm from the wall vault, his eyes blazing with lethal fury. “Elena! The panic room, now!”

Elena, who was holding Mira while keeping Adrian and Luca close behind her, did not panic. Six months of living alongside Caden had taught her resilience. She knew that fear was a luxury they couldn’t afford.

“I’m taking them to the sub-basement vault,” Elena said, her voice steady despite the thundering explosions outside. “Come back to us, Caden. Kill them all, but come back to us.”

Caden looked at his wife—strong, unyielding, placing full trust in his strength—and felt a wave of untamed power surge through his veins. He kissed her fiercely, lingering for a fraction of a second against her lips.

“Lock the vault door from the inside,” Caden ordered. “No one comes out until you hear my voice.”

Elena rushed the children down the hidden elevator shaft to the reinforced titanium vault beneath the bedrock, while Caden, Ortega, and the elite Voss security team moved to meet the invaders in the grand hall.
