Chapter 7 - The Battle of Lenox

The security monitors in the safe room showed a scene of absolute chaos.
Alarms blared silently on the screens, flashing red lights illuminating the dark hallways of the mansion. Liam's security forces took defensive positions behind the stone pillars of the grand entryway and the reinforced windows of the second floor.
"Liam..." I whispered, my eyes darting from screen to screen, trying to find him.
Finally, I saw him. He was standing in the center of the grand lobby, completely calm, holding a heavy assault rifle. He looked like a king preparing to defend his castle.
The front doors of the mansion were blown open with a deafening blast of smoke and debris. Sterling’s men poured into the lobby, weapons firing.
The gunfight was intense and brutal. On the screens, muzzle flashes lit up the smoke-filled rooms. Liam’s men fought with military precision, systematically pushing the invaders back. Liam himself moved like a shadow, firing with lethal accuracy, his expression a mask of absolute focus.
But on the outer camera, I saw Richard Sterling and Dr. Aris, accompanied by three heavily armed guards, bypassing the main battle and heading toward the side entrance—the exact entrance that led to the secret elevator shaft of our safe room.
"They're coming here," my mother gasped, holding my hand tightly, her eyes wide with fear. "Maya, they know about the safe room."
"They don't have the access codes, Mom," I said, trying to stay calm, though my heart was beating in my throat. "The doors are three-inch-thick solid steel."
"Dr. Aris was the one who installed the medical equipment in this bunker, Maya," my mother revealed, her voice shaking. "He helped O'Connor’s team design the medical suite down here. He has the override codes."
As if on cue, the electronic keypad outside the safe room door began to beep.
The red light on the scanner turned yellow. Then green.
The heavy steel blast doors hissed, slowly sliding open.
I instinctively stepped in front of my mother, grabbing a heavy metal IV pole from the corner of the room, my knuckles turning white as I held it like a weapon.
Richard Sterling stepped into the bunker, a cruel, victorious smile spreading across his face. Beside him, Dr. Aris looked nervous, holding a tablet containing the estate's security overrides.
"Clara Lin," Richard Sterling said, his voice smooth and dripping with aristocratic venom. "After twenty-five years, we finally meet. And this must be your lovely daughter, Maya. You’ve caused my family a great deal of trouble."
"Get out of here, Richard," my mother said, her voice remarkably steady as she stood up from her chair, facing her old enemy. "You've lost. Liam's forces are destroying your men upstairs."
"Am I?" Richard laughed, pulling a silver pistol from his coat and aiming it directly at my head. "Once O'Connor realizes I have his precious nurse and her daughter, he will drop his weapons and sign over every single share of O'Connor Holdings to me. I don't need an army to beat Liam, Clara. I just need you."
"I don't think so," a voice growled from the doorway.
Before Richard could turn, a shot echoed through the concrete bunker.
Dr. Aris let out a choked cry, dropping the tablet as a bullet struck his shoulder. He collapsed to the floor, groaning in pain.
Liam stood in the doorway of the safe room, his clothes stained with soot and blood, his eyes burning with a terrifying, demonic fury. He didn't hesitate. He fired two more shots, neutralizing Richard’s remaining guards before they could even raise their weapons.
Richard Sterling spun around, his face twisted in a mask of panic, and aimed his gun at Liam.
But Liam was faster.
He lunged forward, grabbing Richard’s wrist and slamming it against the steel doorframe. The silver pistol clattered to the floor. Liam grabbed Richard by the collar, slamming him hard against the concrete wall of the bunker, pressing the barrel of his rifle directly beneath the older man's chin.
"It's over, Sterling," Liam whispered, his voice shaking with a cold, absolute hatred. "Your men are dead. Your empire is gone. And today, you answer for my father."
"Liam, please!" Richard gasped, his aristocratic composure completely vanishing as he looked into the eyes of the man he had tried to destroy for twenty-five years. "We can make a deal! I'll give you everything! The shipping yards, the real estate—"
May you like
"I don't make deals with monsters," Liam said.
He pulled the trigger.
