Chapter 5 - The Eviction Order

Two weeks after the accident, I was cleared for discharge from the hospital to a specialized physical rehabilitation facility. My pelvis was healing, and with intense daily therapy, I was beginning to take my first agonizing steps with a walker. Noah and Lily were thriving, temporarily cared for by a full-time, vetted pediatric nursing service I hired to stay with us in a private medical suite.

While I fought to regain my mobility, the legal hammer fell on my parents' residence.

Because the home was held under a revocable occupancy agreement owned by Vanguard, Daniel served my parents with an official 72-hour emergency eviction notice, backed by a court order stemming from their fraudulent activities against the corporation.

When the sheriff's deputies arrived at the luxury estate, my mother refused to open the door. She locked herself in the master bedroom, screaming that she was the rightful owner, while my father frantically called lawyers who refused to take his case without a massive upfront retainer he could no longer afford.

A local news crew, tipped off by Claire’s disgruntled ex-employees, arrived outside the gates. The spectacle was broadcast across local media: the wealthy, prominent parents of tech heiress Mara Vance being forcibly removed from their lavish estate by county officers.

As workers packed their belongings into storage containers paid for by Vanguard (to be held until they settled their debts), my mother stood on the sidewalk, clutching a designer handbag, screaming into the news cameras that her daughter was an ungrateful monster who had abandoned her family.

Watching the broadcast from my rehabilitation room, I felt no joy—only a profound, quiet relief. The parasite was finally being detached.

Later that evening, my father sent me a direct email from a temporary account. “You’ve ruined our name. You’ve humiliated us in front of the entire city. Is this what Evan would have wanted? You are a cold, heartless woman, Mara. You will die alone.”

I didn't delete the email. Instead, I forwarded it directly to the police as additional evidence of harassment and intimidation to secure a permanent restraining order.
