Chapter 10 - The Masterpiece

Ethan knelt on one knee right there on the sunlit pier, the soft lap of the ocean waves providing the perfect soundtrack to the moment.
He opened the velvet box. Inside rested a stunning, ethically sourced sapphire ring, surrounded by a halo of brilliant conflict-free diamonds, catching the golden evening light like a star.
"Clara," Ethan said, his voice deep, soft, and trembling with emotion. "For years, we both lived in a house built on lies. We survived the worst darkness anyone could throw at us, and together, we fought our way into the light. You are my best friend, my partner, my protector, and the love of my life. Will you marry me and build a forever with me?"
Tears of pure, unadulterated joy welled in my eyes. I didn't hesitate for even a fraction of a second.
"Yes!" I cried, laughing through my tears. "Yes, Ethan! Absolutely yes!"
Ethan stood up with a radiant smile, slipping the sapphire ring onto my finger before pulling me into his arms. He lifted me slightly off my feet, spinning me around as I laughed happily against his chest.
When he set me down, he brought his lips to mine in a slow, deep, passionate kiss that tasted of sweet sea air, fresh starts, and absolute safety.
Unlike the cold, hollow marriage I had endured with Julian, being held by Ethan felt like coming home to a warm, brightly lit house after a long, freezing storm. There were no hidden pills, no secret bank accounts, no lingering glances at other women, and no lies.
There was only pure, honest, unwavering love.
Six months later.
We were married in a small, intimate outdoor ceremony in the gardens of our new country home in Vermont—a beautiful, sunlit property surrounded by rolling green hills, ancient maple trees, and fresh mountain air.
Only our closest friends, our trusted legal team, and our real loved ones were present. There were no high-society cameras, no corporate press releases, and no shadow of the Vance past.
That evening, as the stars began to fill the clear night sky, Ethan and I sat together on the wooden porch swing of our new home, wrapped in a cozy woolen blanket. A warm fire crackled softly in the outdoor hearth nearby.
My head rested against Ethan’s chest, listening to the steady, reassuring beat of his heart, while his arm stayed wrapped securely around my shoulders.
"What are you thinking about, my beautiful wife?" Ethan asked softly, kissing the top of my head.
I looked down at the brilliant sapphire ring glistening on my finger, then out at the dark, peaceful forest stretching into the quiet horizon.
"I was thinking about the night I found that pill in Julian's jacket," I admitted quietly, a soft smile playing on my lips. "I thought my life was completely over that night. I thought I was doomed to be a victim of their sick game forever."
Ethan squeezed me a little tighter, leaning down to press his forehead against mine.
"You were never a victim, Clara," Ethan said gently, his eyes full of endless devotion. "You were the storm that cleared out the poison so something beautiful could finally grow."
May you like
"And look at what grew," I whispered, turning my face up to kiss him softly on the lips.
We sat together on the porch swing long into the night, held safe in each other's arms, listening to the quiet rustle of the wind through the trees, completely free, completely healed, and deeply in love—ready to live the happy, peaceful life we had fought so hard to win.
