Chapter 5 - The Corporate Boardroom Coup

The conference room on the fiftieth floor of Cole Tower was built to intimidate.
Walls of reinforced glass offered a panoramic view of the Manhattan skyline, while a fifty-foot mahogany table dominated the center of the room. Seated around it were twelve senior board members, handpicked loyalists of Arthur Cole, murmuring nervously among themselves as Damian strode through the double doors.
He wasn't wearing a standard corporate suit. He wore a sharp, midnight-blue tuxedo jacket over a black shirt, looking every bit the executioner.
Arthur Cole sat at the head of the table, his cane resting across his knees, his face a mask of cold, unyielding fury.
"You're making a catastrophic mistake, Damian," Arthur barked as his grandson took the seat opposite him. "The board will never vote to remove me as chairman. You have no legal precedent to freeze the family trust."
"I don't need a vote, Grandfather," Damian said smoothly, tossing a thick dossier onto the center of the mahogany table. "I need a confession."
Several board members flinched.
"What is the meaning of this?" muttered Robert Sterling, head of the mid-Atlantic shipping division.
"Read page fourteen of the dossier," Damian commanded, leaning back in his executive chair, resting his hands casually on the armrests. "That is the forensic audit report compiled by independent investigators over the last seventy-two hours. It details systematic embezzlement of trust funds, unauthorized corporate wiretaps on private citizens, and the deliberate forgery of legal dissolution documents executed under Arthur Cole's direct supervision."
The room erupted into chaotic shouting.
"This is slander!" Arthur shouted, slamming his cane against the floor. "Guards! Remove him from the building!"
None of the corporate security guards standing by the door moved. They had already received their new orders from the primary stakeholder.
"You forged my signature on fraudulent divorce papers in 2022," Damian continued, his voice cutting through the noise like a razor blade. "You threatened my wife. You stole four years of my children's lives. And yesterday, you attempted to use corporate assets to intimidate a private citizen on public property."
He stood up, leaning over the table, glaring directly into his grandfather's terrified eyes.
"You can resign quietly today, retain your honorary title, and live out your remaining years in comfort at the Westchester estate," Damian said quietly. "Or I hand this dossier directly to the United States Attorney's Office, and you spend your final years sharing a cell with your former security chief."
Arthur Cole stared at his grandson for a long, agonizing minute. The iron-willed patriarch who had built an empire out of fear and absolute control finally looked his age. His shoulders slumped, the fire in his faded gray eyes extinguishing into bitter defeat.
"You're a fool, Damian," Arthur whispered, his voice trembling as he pushed his chair back from the table. "You're trading an empire for a family that will only drag you down."
May you like
"No," Damian replied coldly. "I'm trading a prison for a home."
Without another word, Arthur Cole stood up, grabbed his cane, and walked out of the boardroom for the very last time.
