Chapter 18 - THE COURTROOM OF RECKONING

Six months later, the federal courthouse in downtown Seattle was surrounded by a sea of news vans, satellite dishes, and crowds of citizens holding signs demanding justice. It was termed the corporate trial of the decade.
Inside the packed courtroom, Marcus Vance sat at the defense table in a sharp charcoal suit, flanked by five of the country’s most expensive defense attorneys. He still projected an aura of arrogant invincibility—until Rachel took the witness stand.
Dressed in a simple, elegant navy dress, Rachel looked calm, steady, and radiant. She didn't look like a victim hiding in the shadows anymore; she looked like a survivor stepping into the light.
For three straight hours, under grueling cross-examination, Rachel detailed the hidden financial channels, the domestic abuse, and the threats made against her child and friends. Beside her, I sat in the front row of the gallery, my presence a quiet, unyielding anchor whenever her voice faltered.
Then, it was my turn to testify.
As the prosecution’s star technical expert, I spent two days breaking down the mountain of encrypted data for the jury. Line by line, transaction by transaction, I exposed how Vance had used shell companies to launder hundreds of millions of dollars while orchestrating hits on anyone who threatened his control.
When the jury returned after just two hours of deliberation, the court was dead silent.
"On count one, racketeering: Guilty. On count two, conspiracy to commit murder: Guilty. On count three, financial fraud: Guilty..."

As the judge read through forty-two consecutive guilty verdicts, Marcus Vance collapsed back into his leather chair, his face ash-gray, his arrogant posture completely deflated. The judge sentenced him to three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
As the bailiffs led him away in heavy chains, Vance turned to look at Rachel one last time. But Rachel didn't turn away, nor did she flinch. She simply held Oliver’s hand, watching her former tormentor vanish through the heavy iron doors into the dark abyss he had created for himself.
