Chapter 20 - THE GOLDEN HORIZON

One year after the trial.
The summer sun shone brilliantly over Cannon Beach, casting a glittering sheet of gold across the quiet waters of the Pacific. A gentle tide rolled over the smooth stones, filling the air with the rhythmic, comforting melody of the sea.
On the wooden deck of our seaside home, laughter echoed softly. Agent Hayes—now promoted to Regional Director after purging the corruption from the DOJ— sat at the outdoor table, enjoying a slice of homemade pie while watching Oliver show off his new skimboarding tricks down on the sand.
I stood at the edge of the deck, holding a warm cup of coffee, breathing in the sweet, crisp ocean air.
Rachel walked out from the house, wearing a soft cream-colored sweater. She stepped up behind me, wrapping her arms gently around my waist and resting her chin on my shoulder.
"What are you looking at, data analyst?" she asked softly, her voice filled with a warm, deep tenderness.
"I’m looking at the numbers," I said with a quiet smile, reaching back to cover her hands with mine. "Twenty-five years of solitude. Twelve years of lost time. Three days of terror. And a lifetime of happiness ahead of us."
"And how does the math balance out?" Rachel whispered, leaning in to press a gentle kiss against my cheek.
I turned around in her arms, looking down into her dark, beautiful eyes—eyes that were no longer shadowed by fear or pain, but shining with love, security, and absolute freedom.

Down on the shore, Oliver waved his arms frantically, calling out to us with a bright, ringing laugh: "Nora! Mom! Come look at the sea star I found!"
"The math is perfect," I said, taking Rachel’s hand in mine as we walked down the wooden steps together toward the sunlit beach. "The storm is completely over. And we are finally home."
