Chapter 9 - The New Hierarchy

Three months later.

The Grand Ballroom of the Drake Hotel was decorated with thousands of white roses, silver silk drapes, and towering crystal chandeliers.

It was the wedding of the decade.

Over four hundred guests filled the room—federal judges, international bank chairmen, city mayors, and union representatives sat alongside Luca’s closest security team and Mara’s beloved shelter volunteers.

Standing at the altar in a tailored black tuxedo, Luca Vale looked like a king claiming his kingdom. His posture was proud, his jaw set, but his eyes were fixed entirely on the double oak doors at the back of the hall.

The grand organ swelled into a magnificent processional hymn.

The doors swung open.

Mara stepped into the room, arm-in-arm with Dr. Salazar, who had proudly agreed to walk her down the aisle in place of her late father.

She looked breathtakingly exquisite. Her custom-designed ivory lace gown hugged her gorgeous full figure with royal perfection, cascading down into a six-foot train of delicate silk. A diamond tiara rested in her dark sweeping updo, holding a sheer lace veil that framed her radiant, glowing face.

As she walked down the white runner, every single executive in the room stood up in quiet, reverent respect.

Grant Holloway, sitting in the third row, wiped a genuine tear from his eye, leaning over to whisper to his wife, "That woman runs this city, and God bless her for it."

Mara reached the altar. Dr. Salazar gently kissed her cheek, placing her hand into Luca’s large, waiting palm.

Luca looked down at her, his heart pounding in his chest with an intensity no corporate deal or street war could ever match.

"You look breathtaking, my love," he whispered softly.

"You don't look too bad yourself, Boss," she whispered back with a radiant, teasing smile.

The archbishop stepped forward, his voice echoing through the grand hall.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of God and these witnesses to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony..."

The vows were spoken not with corporate polish, but with deep, unyielding conviction.

When Luca slipped the heavy platinum band onto Mara’s finger, his voice didn't shake. "With this ring, I give you my life, my empire, and my heart. Forever."

And when Mara slid her band onto his finger, she looked into his eyes with absolute clarity. "With this ring, I promise to stand by your side, to build our future, and to love you through every storm."

"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the archbishop declared joyfully. "You may kiss the bride."

Luca didn't wait. He pulled Mara into his arms, dipping her back slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, magnificent kiss that brought the entire room to its feet in thunderous, deafening applause.
