Chapter 5 - The Unraveling of Grayhaven

By the next morning, the arrest of Arthur Hale had sent shockwaves through the financial corridors of Grayhaven.
Headline news across every major paper blared: HALE REAL ESTATE COLLAPSES: BILLION-DOLLAR FRAUD EXPOSED BY ANONYMOUS WHISTLEBLOWER.
Inside Blackwood Estate, the mood had shifted entirely.
The grand ballroom, which hours ago had been filled with judgment and cruelty, was now empty. Housekeeping staff—her former peers—were quietly restoring order. But none of them looked at Ivy with envy or distance. They looked at her with awe and profound respect.
Ivy sat in the estate's sunlit morning room, wearing a simple lavender silk dress that Ronan’s private tailor had delivered at dawn.
Malcolm walked in carrying a silver tray with a pot of fresh Earl Grey tea and a plate of warm scones. He set it down on the table beside her, bowing slightly.
"Mr. Blackwood will be joining you shortly, Miss Lancaster," Malcolm said warmly. "He is currently concluding a conference call with the Mayor."
"Malcolm," Ivy said, feeling uncomfortable with the deferential posture. "Please don't bow to me. I've worked alongside you for three years. I'm still Ivy."
Malcolm smiled, a gentle, paternal warmth filling his aged eyes. "Miss Lancaster, for three years, I watched you scrub floors that you were overqualified to walk on. I watched you take insults from spoiled socialites without ever losing your dignity. You saved this house from ruin. In my eyes, you have always belonged at the head of this table."
The door opened, and Ronan walked in.
He looked refreshed, wearing a dark blue suit that accentuated his broad shoulders and commanding presence. He motioned for Malcolm to leave, stepping into the room and sitting across from Ivy.
"The Hale assets are being auctioned by the bankruptcy court on Friday," Ronan said, pouring himself a cup of tea. "I intend to buy their shipping terminals and turn them over to the dockworkers' union."
Ivy smiled softly. "The dockworkers will be grateful. That will secure three thousand jobs."
"They won't be thanking me," Ronan said, looking directly into her eyes. "They will be thanking the new Vice Chair of the Blackwood Consortium."

Ivy froze, her teacup halfway to her lips. "Vice Chair?"
"I signed the corporate restructuring documents an hour ago," Ronan announced calmly. "You own ten percent of the voting shares, Ivy. Effective immediately."
