Chapter 9 - The Final Reckoning

The federal investigation into Vance’s syndicate moved swiftly, backed by a mountain of digital evidence compiled by Meredith. With Vance behind bars for life, the dark clouds that had hung over Chicago’s underworld finally began to dissipate.
Kieran spent the next six months systematically legitimizing all of Ashford Enterprises’ assets. The underground holdings were sold off or converted into legal commercial ventures, clean shipping lines, and public infrastructure projects.
On a warm afternoon in September, the Lake View Grand indoor amusement zone officially reopened under new management.
A large crowd gathered around the central plaza beneath the glittering red loops of the roller coaster. Jolene stood at the podium, glowing with happiness, cutting the ceremonial ribbon alongside local city officials.

Meredith stood near the back of the crowd, wearing a simple navy blue dress instead of her usual gray work uniform. She looked up at the fifty-meter steel catwalk where her journey with Kieran had begun. It didn't look terrifying anymore; it just looked like a piece of well-engineered steel doing its job.

"Thinking about climbing back up there?" he whispered with a quiet laugh.
"Only if the current drops below tolerance," she replied, smiling as she leaned back against his chest.

"I had the maintenance team replace every solenoid in the building," Kieran said. "They used your exact specifications. Nothing breaks in this park anymore."
"Good," she turned around in his arms, looking up into his dark, devoted eyes. "Because I'm tired of fixing things alone."
