Chapter 10 - A New Blueprint

One year later, the sun rose over Lake Michigan, painting the sky in soft shades of rose and gold.
In the high-rise architectural studio of Lawson-Ashford Engineering, Meredith sat at a grand drafting table, sketching the blueprints for a massive public science center funded by the Ashford Foundation.
The door opened, and Jolene walked in carrying a tray of fresh pastries and coffee, her laughter filling the sunlit room. She was now running the foundation's charity programs, vibrant and entirely free from the fear that had once constrained her life.
"Here's your morning fuel, Chief Engineer," Jolene smiled, setting a cup beside Meredith's blueprints. "Kieran is waiting downstairs. He says if you don't take a lunch break today, he’s going to buy the construction company and fire the boss."
Meredith laughed, setting her pencil down. "He wouldn't dare."
"He definitely would," Jolene teased. "You know how he gets."
Meredith walked down the grand marble staircase of the building to the courtyard below. Kieran was leaning against the side of his car, dressed in an open-collar white shirt, looking handsome and completely at peace. The cold, feared mafia boss of Chicago was gone, replaced by a man who looked at the world with warmth, purpose, and deep gratitude.
When he saw Meredith walking toward him, his face lit up with a brilliant smile. He walked forward, wrapping her in his arms and pulling her close for a deep, lingering kiss.
"How are the blueprints coming?" he asked softly, slipping his hand into hers.
"Perfect," she smiled, looking down at the delicate diamond ring resting on her finger. "Every calculation is balanced."
"And the emergency contact form?" Kieran asked, his eyes dancing with affection.
Meredith smiled, her eyes shining with happiness as she squeezed his hand tightly.

"I filled it out this morning," she whispered, leaning in to kiss his cheek. "I put down my husband."
Hand in hand, they walked together into the bright afternoon sun, leaving behind the shadows of the past to build a safe, peaceful, and beautiful future together.
