Chapter 10 - The Guardian's Promise

Two years later.
The autumn leaves were turning brilliant shades of crimson, gold, and deep orange across the hills of the Moretti estate.
Emma was five years old now, dressed in her blue school uniform, holding a colorful backpack decorated with small dog stickers. It was her very first day of kindergarten.
Sophia was standing near the front entrance of the mansion, wiping a tear from her cheek as she adjusted Emma’s collar. "Now remember, sweetie... listen to your teacher, share your crayons, and don't eat the paste."
"I won't, Mommy!" Emma giggled, bouncing on her heels.
Alessandro walked out of the front entrance, holding a sleek set of car keys. He looked sharp, healthy, and completely transformed—a man dedicated entirely to his family and his philanthropic foundation.
"Ready for your big adventure, kiddo?" Alessandro asked, offering her a high-five.
"Ready!" Emma cheered, slapping his hand enthusiastically.
Then, she paused.
She turned around, looking back toward the wide front porch.
Lying on a soft, heated orthopedic bed beneath the shade of the archway was Bruno.
The Cane Corso was eighteen and a half years old now—an absolute miracle of age for his breed. His dark muzzle was almost entirely silver now, his amber eyes soft and wise, reflecting a lifetime of fierce protection, survival, and deep, unconditional love.
He couldn't run across the lawn anymore, but he didn't need to. He had completed his grand duty.
Emma walked up the porch steps, dropping her small backpack onto the wood. She knelt down beside the ancient dog, gently taking his broad, silver muzzle in her hands.
"I'm going to school now, Bruno," she whispered softly, kissing the soft spot between his ears. "You watch the house while I'm gone, okay? I'll be back at three o'clock to tell you all about it."
Bruno opened his eyes, looking into the face of the girl he had chosen over an empire.
He let out a low, warm, rumbling sigh, nudging her chin gently with his nose. He gave one slow, deliberate thump of his tail against his plush bed—a guardian’s solemn promise.
"I love you, Bruno," Emma murmured, hugging his broad neck one last time.
"I love you too, my brave boy," Alessandro whispered, leaning down to pat the dog’s broad chest before taking Emma’s small hand.
Sophia, Alessandro, and Emma walked down the stone steps toward the family car, their laughter floating through the crisp autumn air.
Bruno lay on his warm bed beneath the grand archway of the mansion.
He rested his silver muzzle onto his front paws, watching the car slowly drive down the sunlit driveway through the open, welcoming gates of the estate.

The violence was gone. The shadows had vanished. The empire of fear had been replaced by a home of love, safety, and light.
And as the golden morning sun warmed his velvet fur, the feared Cane Corso closed his eyes, resting peacefully in the paradise he had fought sixteen years to protect.
