Chapter 10 - The Dawn of a New Legacy

The beach behind the lakefront estate was bathed in the warm, golden light of a summer sunset.
The water of Lake Michigan lapped gently against the sand.
Leo and Maya were running along the shoreline, wearing matching yellow boots, chasing a small golden retriever puppy Declan had bought them for their third birthday. Their laughter filled the warm air, a bright, beautiful sound that echoed through the stone pillars of the mansion.
Declan and Norah sat on a wooden bench, watching them.
Declan had his arm around her, her head resting on his shoulder.
"I used to think that the only way to survive was to build a wall of fear," Declan said, his eyes watching his children run. "But looking at them... I realize that the only thing worth building is a home."
Norah reached up, her fingers sliding into his. "You did it, Declan. You changed the world for them."
May you like
"No," Declan said, looking down at her with a soft, winter-gray gaze that was now filled with light. "They changed the world for me."
As the sun sank below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and gold, Declan stood up, walking down to the sand to join his children. He scooped them both into his arms, their laughter echoing over the water, a new legacy finally beginning in the light.
