Chapter 8 - The Confrontation of the Voss Dynasty

The storm had returned, the rain hammering the stone mansion as if trying to tear it down.
Declan’s car roared through the gates, his tires throwing gravel as he slid to a halt in front of the main entrance. He jumped out, his gun already in his hand, his face a mask of absolute, murderous rage.
He walked into the grand foyer.
Standing in the center of the room was Viktor Voss. The old man was dressed in a pristine black suit, holding a silver-headed cane. Behind him stood his last ten loyal guards, their weapons drawn.
"Declan," the old man rasped, his voice calm despite the chaos. "You’ve grown quite a spine. I must admit, I am impressed. You took the docks, you bought off my captains... you are a true Voss."
"Where are they, Father?" Declan asked, his voice a low, freezing whisper.
"They are safe," Viktor said. "For now. But they are my legacy, Declan. I will not let you throw them away on some schoolteacher from Oregon. You will marry Khloe. You will unite the families. And the children will be raised as Vosses, under my guidance."
"No," Declan said.
He raised his gun, pointing it directly at his father’s chest.
"The Voss syndicate ends today, Father. I have already signed the transition papers. The docks, the shipping lines, the real estate... it is all being transferred to a clean, legitimate corporation. We are no longer a mafia family. We are a business."
Viktor’s face finally changed, his calm mask cracking into a look of pure, venomous hatred. "You fool! You are destroying forty years of my work! For what? A woman? A couple of kids?"
"For my family," Declan said.
"Shoot him," Viktor ordered his men.
But the men behind Viktor hesitated. They looked at Declan, then at the heavy doors of the foyer, which were suddenly kicked open by Marcus and forty of Declan’s loyal guards, their weapons aimed at Viktor’s men.
"The war is over, boys," Marcus said. "Drop 'em."
One by one, Viktor’s last loyal guards threw their weapons onto the marble floor. The clattering of the metal was the only sound in the massive room.
Viktor looked around, his eyes wide with the sudden, crushing realization that his empire had crumbled in minutes. He looked at Declan, his hand trembling as he gripped his cane.
"You... you traitor," the old man whispered.

"Get him out of my sight," Declan ordered. "Take him to the lake house in Wisconsin. He is retired. If he ever comes back to Chicago, he will be treated as an intruder."
The guards grabbed Viktor, guiding the old man out of the house. He looked incredibly small, a relics of a violent, forgotten era.
