Chapter 5 - Dawn at Mass General

The private wing of Massachusetts General Hospital smelled of crisp linen, antiseptic, and faint, sweet jasmine.
Outside Room 412, two of Ray’s most trusted men stood guard in tailored suits, looking like secret service agents assigned to a foreign head of state. When they saw Ronan approach down the linoleum corridor, they snapped to attention and pulled open the heavy oak door.
Ronan stepped inside.
The room was bathed in the soft, golden light of early morning. An IV pole stood beside the bed, its clear plastic bag dripping saline at a slow, steady rhythm into the back of Sienna’s hand. She was sleeping, her dark hair spread across the white pillows, her breathing deep, even, and untroubled for the first time in months.
The dark, bruised hollows beneath her eyes still remained, but the terrifying gray pallor of her skin had been replaced by a faint, natural warmth.
Ronan walked quietly across the room, pulling a metal-framed chair up beside the bed. He didn't want to wake her, but as he reached out to pull the light wool blanket higher over her shoulders, her eyelids fluttered open.
Her dark eyes focused slowly, shifting from the IV pole to Ronan’s tired, shadowed face.
"Ronan," she whispered, her voice still raspy. "What... what happened?"
"It's finished," he said softly, his thumb gently brushing a stray lock of hair away from her forehead. "Callum signed the transfer papers at three o'clock this morning. He's on a flight out of the country. He will never, ever come near this building again."
Sienna stared at him, tears welling up in her eyes once more, though this time there was no terror in them—only an overwhelming, staggering relief. "You let him go?"
"I exiled him," Ronan corrected quietly. "And I took everything he stole from this company and placed it in a trust for you and the baby. The board has been restructured. Mercer Terminal Holdings is officially under new management."
Sienna let out a shaky, watery laugh, pressing a hand against her flat stomach. "You're insane, Ronan Mercer. You walk into an office building at midnight like a mob boss out of a movie and dismantle a corporate conspiracy before breakfast."
"I told you," Ronan said, a rare, faint smile touching the corners of his mouth. "Nobody touches what's mine."
She looked at him for a long moment, the silence between them charged with everything unsaid—four months of fear, one night in Miami that had rewritten their destinies, and the terrifying, beautiful future rushing toward them like a tidal wave.
"Does this mean," Sienna murmured, her lips curving into a tentative smile, "that our blind date is finally back on?"

Ronan leaned down, capturing her hand in his, pressing his lips gently against her knuckles.
"It never stopped," he whispered. "And this time, I’m not letting you out of my sight."
