Chapter 7 - The Shadows Recede

Spring melted into a brilliant Boston summer, bringing warm salt breezes off the harbor and clear, starlit nights over the Atlantic.
The trial—or rather, the federal indictment proceedings against Callum Tierney, who had been tracked down by Interpol in a quiet seaside village in Uruguay—took place entirely behind closed doors. With the airtight financial ledgers and signed confession forms Ronan had secured that stormy night, federal prosecutors didn't even need Sienna to testify.
Callum was sentenced to thirty-five years in a federal penitentiary for corporate espionage, international wire fraud, and attempted poisoning. His name was systematically scrubbed from the corporate registry of Mercer Terminal Holdings, relegated to a dark, footnote in the company’s history that nobody ever spoke of.
For Ronan and Sienna, life settled into a rhythm that felt almost miraculous—normal, stable, and anchored by a profound, unshakeable peace.
On a warm Saturday evening in July, the private estate on the North Shore was bathed in the soft amber light of dusk. The sprawling lawn stretched down toward a private rocky cove where the tide gently lapped against the granite boulders.
Inside the house, the nursery was complete. Painted in soft tones of cream and sage green, it featured handcrafted wooden furniture, a massive bookshelf filled with classic literature, and a small, framed photograph of the Boston skyline taken from the executive suite window on the night everything changed.
Sienna sat in a comfortable rocking chair by the open window, feeling the gentle summer breeze brush against her skin. Her pregnancy was in its final weeks, and her body felt heavy, warm, and entirely content.
Footsteps sounded softly in the hallway, and Ronan walked in. He had discarded his usual tailored suit jacket, wearing a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. In his hands, he carried a small silver tray with a glass of sparkling water and a plate of fresh fruit.
"You're spoiling me," Sienna said softly, a smile spreading across her face as he set the tray on the side table and knelt beside her chair.
"It's required by law," Ronan replied, resting his hands gently on her stomach. The baby gave a gentle, rhythmic roll, as if acknowledging its father's presence. "How are you feeling?"
"Heavy," she admitted, laughing softly. "And ready for this little one to finally make an appearance."
Ronan looked up at her, his dark eyes shining with an emotion he had spent thirty-four years hiding from the world. "Whenever they're ready, we're ready."
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, velvet-lined jeweler’s box. He didn't make a grand speech—grand speeches weren't his style. Instead, he simply flipped the lid open.
Inside rested a ring—not the simple platinum band with the deep blue sapphire he had imagined months ago, but a delicate, intricate platinum setting encrusted with small, brilliant diamonds framing a vibrant, flawless emerald, catching the evening light like a drop of summer forest.
"You didn't have to," Sienna whispered, her breath catching in her throat as tears pricked the corners of her eyes.
"I bought it the week after we cleared the books," Ronan confessed, his voice dropping into a husky, vulnerable whisper. "I was waiting for the right moment. But looking at you right now, sitting in this room, realizing everything we've survived... every moment from here on out is the right moment."

He slid the emerald ring onto her left ring finger. It fit with absolute, flawless perfection.
Sienna leaned forward, framing his face with her hands, and pulled him into a slow, deep, lingering kiss that tasted of salt air, summer rain, and a lifetime of tomorrows.
