Chapter 7 - The Healing of Sam

Three months later.
The high-rise windows of Columbia Medical Center looked out over a sunlit Central Park, vibrant with green trees and blooming summer flowers.
Inside Room 802, fifteen-year-old Sam Hayes stood beside his hospital bed, wearing a dark blue suit, adjusting his necktie in the mirror.
His cheeks were full and pink. His dark hair had grown back thick and healthy. The latest bone marrow biopsy results had arrived an hour earlier: COMPLETE REMISSION.
The door to the room opened, and Sadie walked in, wearing a stunning emerald green silk dress that reached her knees, her hair styled in soft waves.
When Sam saw his sister, his face lit up with a huge, radiant smile.
"Sadie!" Sam cheered, rushing over and pulling her into a tight, lifting hug. "Did Dr. Giuliano tell you?! The numbers are completely clean! I’m cured!"
Sadie held her younger brother tightly, tears of pure, overwhelming joy streaming down her cheeks as she buried her face in his neck.
"I know, baby," Sadie sobbed happily. "I know. God is so good."
Standing in the doorway, watching the tearful reunion with a warm, genuine smile, was Victor Castello, wearing a tailored navy suit, holding a large ribbon-wrapped box in his hands.
Sam pulled back from Sadie, looking over her shoulder at the massive man standing in the doorway.
"Mr. Castello," Sam said, stepping forward respectfully, holding out his hand. "Thank you. For everything. Dr. Giuliano told me you paid for every single treatment."
Victor stepped into the room, taking the fifteen-year-old boy’s hand in a firm, warm handshake.
"You don't need to thank me, Sam," Victor said gently. "Your sister saved my life ten times over. I am the one who is in her debt."
Victor handed the ribbon-wrapped box to Sam. "This is for you. A little welcome-home gift."
Sam opened the box. Inside was a top-of-the-line professional digital camera set, complete with four telephoto lenses and an admission letter to the prestigious Manhattan School of Photography’s summer youth program.
Sam gasped, his eyes wide with wonder. "A photography set?! Mr. Castello... this is amazing! How did you know I loved cameras?"
"Your sister told me you used to take pictures of the ocean before you got sick," Victor smiled warmly. "Now you can take pictures of the whole world."
Sam hugged the box to his chest, wiping a tear from his eye, looking at his sister with profound gratitude.
"Go get your coat, Sam," Sadie smiled gently. "The car is waiting downstairs to take us home."
As Sam rushed into the adjoining room to pack his camera, Sadie stepped up beside Victor.
She reached out, slipping her hand into his large, warm palm. Her knuckles were completely healed now—smooth, soft, and unscarred.
Victor looked down at her hand, then up into her green eyes.
"Where is home, Victor?" Sadie asked softly.
