Chapter 9 - The Garden of Justice

Two years later.

Spring had returned to the Atlantic coast, painting the estate grounds in brilliant shades of green, blue, and gold.

Near the cliffside overlook, sitting on a stone bench surrounded by white roses, was twenty-six-year-old Sadie Castello. She wore a comfortable yellow sundress, her dark hair glowing in the afternoon sunlight.

In her lap, she held her four-month-old daughter—little Sophia Elena Castello—a beautiful baby girl with Victor’s dark hair and Sadie’s bright green eyes.

Sitting beside her on the grass was sixteen-year-old Sam, holding his professional camera, capturing candid photographs of his baby niece laughing as the ocean breeze touched her soft cheeks.

"Look at the camera, Sophia!" Sam giggled, snapping three quick shots. "Perfect! That one’s going into the foundation gallery!"

Heavy, familiar footsteps echoed on the stone path.

Victor walked down from the terrace, wearing a relaxed linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up. The hard, brooding lines that had once carved his face had softened into an expression of deep, serene contentment.

He knelt beside the stone bench, reaching out his large hand to gently touch his baby daughter’s tiny fingers. Sophia gurgled happily, clutching her father’s thumb with her small fist.

"How was the board meeting, Mr. CEO?" Sadie smiled teasingly, leaning over to kiss his cheek.

"Borne out of perfection," Victor smiled, pulling Sadie close with his arm. "The foundation just approved funding for fifty new pediatric bone marrow transplants across the state."

He looked at his wife, his thumb gently caressing her cheek.

"And Pier 42?" Sadie asked.

"Record logistics volume this quarter," Victor answered proudly. "All legal, all clean, all managed by the smartest woman in North America."

Sadie laughed softly, leaning her head against his broad shoulder as they watched the sun begin its slow descent toward the blue horizon.

"Do you ever think about that night, Victor?" Sadie whispered softly. "The night I broke down outside your office?"

Victor looked down at her, his dark eyes filled with endless, eternal devotion.

"Every single day," Victor murmured, placing a soft kiss on her lips. "It was the night my life truly began."
