Chapter 8 - The Queen of the Estate

Six months passed in peace, prosperity, and total transformation.

The Castello estate had undergone a complete rebirth. The cold, dark atmosphere of fear that had once governed the mansion was gone forever.

The tall drapes were pulled back, allowing golden sunlight to flood the marble corridors. The gardens were filled with white roses, sweet jasmine, and lavender.

The illicit loan operations and smuggling rings had been completely dismantled, replaced by legitimate international shipping infrastructure, logistics corporations, and the newly established Arthur Hayes Foundation for Pediatric Oncology—funded by thirty million dollars from Victor’s private wealth.

Sadie was no longer just an administrative assistant.

She was the Chief Executive Officer of Castello Logistics, managing five major ports along the Eastern Seaboard with absolute brilliance, integrity, and grace.

It was a warm Saturday evening when a grand charity gala was held in the ballroom of the Castello estate to celebrate the opening of the new pediatric cancer wing at Columbia Medical Center.

Over three hundred guests filled the room—city officials, doctors, business leaders, and estate staff.

Sadie stood near the wide glass doors leading out to the ocean terrace, wearing a floor-length white satin gown that shimmered under the crystal chandeliers, a delicate diamond necklace sparkling against her collarbone.

Victor walked up beside her, holding two glasses of sparkling cider.

He looked at her with an intensity so fierce it made her breath catch in her throat.

"You look breathtaking, Sadie," Victor said softly, handing her a glass.

"Thank you, Victor," Sadie smiled, looking out at the sun setting over the ocean waves. "It’s hard to believe that one year ago... I was scrubbing the service stairs outside your office at two in the morning."

Victor turned to face her, setting his glass on a passing tray.

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, dark velvet box.

Sadie’s heart began to hammer wildly against her ribs—not with fear, but with an overwhelming, beautiful hope.

Victor dropped to one knee on the polished marble floor.

The entire ballroom went dead silent as three hundred guests turned to watch the iron boss of New York bow before the woman who had captured his soul.

Victor opened the velvet box, revealing a flawless, five-carat emerald ring surrounded by sparkling diamonds—the exact shade of Sadie’s green eyes.

"Sadie Hayes," Victor spoke, his deep voice carrying through the quieted room, filled with raw, absolute love. "One year ago, you walked into my house clutching a bleeding hand and a broken heart. You brought truth into my dark world. You showed me what it means to love, to fight, and to protect."

He looked up into her tear-filled eyes.

"Will you do me the ultimate honor... of becoming my wife, my partner, and the Queen of this home?"

Sadie dropped to her knees in front of him right there on the marble floor, throwing her arms around his neck, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated happiness.

"Yes!" Sadie sobbed joyfully. "Yes, Victor! A thousand times yes!"

The entire ballroom erupted into a roaring standing ovation, cheers and applause echoing off the high gilded ceilings as Victor slipped the emerald ring onto her finger and pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss under the crystal lights.
