Chapter 6 - The Breach at the North Gate

The arrest of Julian Vance triggered an immediate, violent tremor through Chicago’s underworld.

By midnight, my intelligence network confirmed that Julian’s hidden partners—the North Side Syndicate, led by a ruthless strategist named Marcus Cole—realized their internal coup had failed.

Knowing that Julian’s encrypted server access would be wiped within twenty-four hours, Marcus Cole chose desperation over patience.

At 3:00 AM, the blizzard returned with a vengeance, howling through the estate trees with near-zero visibility.

I stood in the primary security command center surrounded by sixteen digital monitors. Marco was rapidly issuing orders to our outer perimeter teams.

“Boss!” Marco pointed to monitor four. “Thermal imaging picked up three heavy transport trucks breaching the north perimeter gate! They bypassed the electronic fences using Julian’s master override codes before we could purge them!”

“How many men?” I asked, my voice deadly calm as I reached for my heavy silver pistol from the table rack.

“At least thirty,” Marco reported, his face grim. “They’re heavily armed. They’re push-advancing toward the residential wing!”

My primary concern wasn't the residential wing. It was the garden cottage where Sophia and Emma were sleeping.

“Geno!” I barked into my radio. “Reroute team alpha to the garden cottage! Move Sophia and her daughter into the safe room beneath the main estate immediately!”

I didn't wait for Geno to respond. I pulled my dark coat over my shoulders, chambered a round into my sidearm, and headed straight for the residential courtyard.
