Chapter 9 - The Sovereign’s Offer

I opened the velvet box.
Inside rested a breathtaking platinum ring set with a brilliant oval-cut diamond that caught the afternoon sunlight, casting tiny rainbows across the mahogany walls.
“Alessandro...” Sophia whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.
“Sophia,” I said, my voice deep, rich, and filled with a warmth I hadn't felt in fifteen years. “Four months ago, I was a man living inside a stone fortress, surrounded by guards, waiting for the next betrayal.”
I stepped closer, taking both of her hands in mine.
“Then a little girl walked into my courtyard with an enamel bowl of warm water,” I continued gently. “And her mother showed me that a home isn't built with weapons or iron gates. It is built with courage, with truth, and with love.”
Tears of pure, radiant joy spilled over Sophia’s eyelashes down her cheeks.
“I don't want you to be my house manager, Sophia,” I murmured, my dark eyes locked onto hers with absolute devotion. “I want you to be my wife. I want to build a life where Emma never has to fear the cold again, and where you stand beside me as my equal.”
Sophia let out a breathless, joyful laugh, throwing her arms around my neck. “Yes! Yes, Alessandro! I love you so much.”

I slipped the platinum ring onto her finger, pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss as the warm spring sun streamed through the glass windows.
Down in the courtyard, Bruno let out a happy bark, running toward the terrace stairs as Emma chased after him, her bright laughter echoing through the gardens.
