Chapter 9 - Restoration

Six months passed.

Spring returned to New York City, bringing bright green leaves to the trees, warm breezes across the Hudson, and vibrant rows of red and yellow tulips to the restored grounds of the Moretti estate.

The scars of the siege had been completely erased. The front gates had been rebuilt stronger and grander, the marble foyer had been restored to pristine elegance, and the dark, oppressive atmosphere that had hung over the mansion for years was entirely gone.

Julian Vale and his daughter Cassandra were both convicted in federal court on multiple counts of attempted murder, domestic terrorism, wire fraud, and grand racketeering. Both were serving life sentences in separate federal penitentiaries without the possibility of parole.

The Moretti syndicate had undergone a massive, historic transformation under Vincent’s absolute rule. The illegitimate operations were liquidated, and the family’s wealth was transitioned entirely into global maritime shipping, sustainable real estate, and philanthropic foundations.

On a glorious Saturday morning in May, the grand ballroom of the Moretti mansion was filled with soft music, bright sunlight, and the fragrant scent of thousands of fresh white roses.

Over two hundred guests gathered—business partners, city officials, loyal associates, and friends.

At the front of the altar stood Vincent Moretti, looking impossibly handsome in a tailored black tuxedo. Beside him stood Marco, wearing a fine suit, smiling broadly.

The grand doors at the back of the ballroom opened.

First came nine-month-old Enzo, walking on chubby, uncertain legs while holding four-year-old Lily’s hand. Lily wore a beautiful miniature white dress, her hair styled with a sparkling rabbit hairpin, proudly carrying a basket of rose petals.

And then came the bride.

I walked down the aisle on the arm of Dr. Harrison, who had kindly offered to walk me down. My dress was a masterpiece of lace and ivory silk, flowing gracefully behind me, but the only thing I saw was the man waiting for me at the end of the aisle.

Vincent’s dark hazel eyes were fixed on me with a look of such intense, breathtaking love that my knees felt weak.

When I reached the altar, Vincent took my hands in his. His hands were warm, strong, and steady.

"You look breathtaking, Clara," Vincent whispered deeply.

"You don't look so bad yourself, Mr. Moretti," I teased softly, a bright, joyful tear escaping my eye.

The priest spoke ancient, beautiful words of devotion, but when it came time for the vows, Vincent looked directly into my eyes, ignoring the script.

"Clara," Vincent spoke, his deep voice echoing clearly across the silent ballroom. "A year ago, I was a man living in darkness, surrounded by deceit, raising my son in a fortress of fear. Then you and Lily walked into my house. You showed me that real strength isn't built on fear—it is built on love, courage, and truth."

He slipped a magnificent, flawless diamond ring onto my finger.

"I give you my heart, my life, my protection, and my name," Vincent swore solemnly. "Forever."

I slipped a silver band onto his finger, smiling through my tears. "Vincent, you gave my daughter and me a home when we had nothing. I give you my love, my devotion, and my life. Forever."

May you like

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced with a warm smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Vincent didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me back slightly, pressing his lips to mine in a passionate, sweeping kiss that made the entire room erupt into roaring applause and cheers.
