Chapter 8 - The Echoes of the Past

Three months later.
Summer had arrived in Greenwich, turning the eighteen acres of the estate into a lush, green paradise filled with blooming hydrangea, oak trees, and sunlight.
The front iron gates of the mansion, which had remained locked and cold for five years, were thrown wide open.
It was Sofia’s fourth birthday.
The rear lawns were decorated with colorful balloons, small white tents, and a wooden playground set that Julian had personally commissioned and helped assemble over the weekend. Children from the nearby local school, along with the children of the estate staff, were running across the grass, their laughter echoing through the trees.
Mr. Sanders stood near the patio, wearing a light summer suit, pouring fresh lemonade for the guests with a wide, permanent smile on his face.
Julian stood on the back terrace, wearing a casual linen shirt, watching Sofia run toward the swings with three of her friends.
Camila walked up behind him, slipping her arm around his waist and resting her head against his shoulder. Her hand, adorned with the platinum sapphire ring that caught the golden summer light, rested gently over his hip.
"She hasn't stopped smiling all day," Camila murmured happily.
Julian wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close and pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "Neither have I."
He looked out toward the edge of the garden, where a simple stone bench sat beneath a massive ancient oak tree—a bench where he used to sit alone in the dark, clutching a glass of whiskey, staring at the stars and wishing for an end to his pain.
He realized now that grief didn't vanish; it transformed. It became a quiet, sacred foundation upon which new life could be built. Charlotte and Emily were not gone from his heart; they were woven into the peace he had finally found.
Sofia came running up the terrace steps, her little sneakers squeaking against the stone. She held a small, slightly squished paper crown in her hand.
"Daddy Julian!" Sofia chirped, reaching up her arms.
May you like
Julian dropped to one knee instantly, catching the little girl in his arms and lifting her high into the air, making her giggle with delight. He placed the paper crown carefully on her dark curls.
"Happy birthday, my little star," Julian smiled, holding her close to his heart.
