Chapter 9 - A New Dawn

Three months later.

The dark, oppressive atmosphere that had once defined the grand estate was completely gone.

The mansion had been transformed. Fresh white flowers filled the grand halls, warm sunlight poured through open balcony doors, and the sound of soft piano music echoed through the library.

With Sal Moretti’s syndicate completely absorbed and the traitors eliminated, Carmine had consolidated total control over the city's underworld. But more importantly, peace had finally returned to his home.

Ivy sat at the massive oak desk in the second-floor library, wearing an elegant silk blouse and trousers. She was no longer a maid, nor was she just an administrative attache.

She was the Vice President of the newly established Vance Philanthropic Trust—a legal, multi-million dollar foundation created by Carmine to fund medical debt relief for low-income families across the state.

A gentle knock sounded at the door.

Carmine walked in, carrying two cups of hot coffee. He wore a relaxed linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, looking happier and more relaxed than Ivy had ever seen him.

He set a cup down on her desk and leaned over, pressing a gentle kiss to her lips.

"How are the new foundation applications looking?" he asked, resting a hand on the back of her chair.

"We just cleared sixty-two families in the city," Ivy smiled up at him, her eyes shining with pure joy. "Their hospital debts are being paid off this afternoon."

"Good," Carmine smiled, stroking her cheek softly. "Best investment I’ve ever made."

Ivy leaned into his warm touch. Over the past three months, their bond had grown into something deep, passionate, and unbreakable. The man who had once been a feared mafia Don was, to her, the most gentle, protective, and loving partner she could have ever dreamed of.

"Dominic told me the new security team for the foundation headquarters has been finalized," Ivy said, taking a sip of her coffee.

"Only the best men," Carmine promised. "You will never have to look over your shoulder again, Ivy."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black velvet box, setting it gently on top of her financial ledgers.

Ivy’s breath caught in her throat. She looked from the box up to Carmine's dark, loving eyes.

"Carmine... what is this?" she whispered.

Carmine took a step back, taking her hand and gently guiding her up from her chair. He dropped down to one knee on the Persian rug before her.

"Ivy," Carmine began, his deep voice trembling slightly with raw emotion. "Four months ago, I walked into a dark kitchen and found a woman who was broken, bruised, and terrified. But behind that fear, I saw the strongest, bravest, and most magnificent soul I had ever encountered."

He opened the velvet box, revealing a flawless three-carat oval diamond ring that shimmered brilliantly in the morning sun.

"You brought light into a life that was filled with nothing but shadows and blood," Carmine continued, looking up into her tear-filled eyes. "You taught me how to feel, how to protect, and how to love. I don't want to just be your protector, Ivy. I want to be your husband. Will you marry me?"

Tears of pure happiness streamed down Ivy’s cheeks. She dropped to her knees before him, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him into a passionate kiss.

"Yes!" she sobbed happily against his lips. "Yes, Carmine! A thousand times yes!"

Carmine laughed—a bright, beautiful sound—as he slid the diamond ring onto her finger, pulling her tight into his arms as the sun lit up the room around them.
