Chapter 4 - THE CORONATION CRASHED

The grand boardroom of Vale Enterprises was a masterpiece of mahogany and polished brass, overlooking the financial district. On this morning, it was buzzing with energy. Reporters from major financial magazines and high-society gossip columns lined the back wall, their cameras flashing as Seraphina Vale took her seat at the head of the long table.

She looked radiant, dressed in an emerald-green designer suit, her diamond necklace catching the light. Beside her sat Vivienne, looking equally smug, live-streaming the event to her social media followers.

“Thank you all for coming,” Seraphina announced, her voice dripping with practiced elegance. “As the grieving widow of the late, great Arthur Vale, it is my bittersweet duty to take up the mantle of leadership. My husband’s final wish was for me to guide this company into a new era of prosperity, free from the... distractions of the past.”

“Distractions?” one reporter chimed in. “Does that include Arthur’s daughter, Clara Vale? Rumor has it she was excluded from the will entirely.”

Seraphina sighed dramatically, dabbing a pristine white handkerchief at the corner of her eye. “Regrettably, yes. Clara chose a path that separated her from this family's values. She married a... common laborer, a mechanic. My late husband felt that leaving corporate assets to someone involved in such a lifestyle would be a detriment to the company’s future. We wish her well, of course, but Vale Enterprises belongs to those who possess the refinement to run it.”

Vivienne snickered into her phone, whispering to her live stream: “Basically, she’s poor now. Sucks to be her.”

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the boardroom were thrown open.

The sound was like a thunderclap. The reporters spun around, their cameras automatically capturing the two figures walking into the room.

I walked in first, wearing a flawless, custom-tailored white Victoria Beckham pantsuit, my hair pulled back into a sleek, powerful ponytail. My stride was confident, my heels clicking sharply against the marble floor.

Beside me walked Leo. He wore a bespoke three-piece midnight-blue suit that cost more than Seraphina’s emerald outfit twice over. Two rows of towering security guards in Vanguard uniforms flanked us, instantly pushing the reporters aside and securing the perimeter of the room.

Seraphina’s smile instantly evaporated. She slammed her hands onto the table, standing up. “Clara! How dare you show your face here? Security, remove this woman immediately! She is no longer associated with this company!”

The company security guards stepped forward, but the moment they saw the Vanguard crest on the suits of the men accompanying us, they froze in absolute terror. No one in the financial world dared to cross a Vanguard operative.

“What is the meaning of this?” Seraphina shrieked, her gaze shifting to Leo. “And you! The garage boy! Why are you wearing a suit? Did you steal that from a client's car? Get out of my boardroom!”

Vivienne laughed nervously, raising her phone. “Oh my god, Clara, this is so embarrassing for you. Are you trying to act rich now? Your husband changes oil for fifty bucks a pop.”

Leo didn't look at Vivienne. He didn't even look at Seraphina. He simply walked to the opposite end of the long mahogany table, pulled out a chair for me, and then remained standing behind me, his hands resting elegantly on the leather backing.

Marcus, our chief of staff, stepped forward, opening her digital ledger. Her voice echoed with absolute legal authority.

“Madam Seraphina Vale,” Marcus announced. “As of 8:45 AM this morning, Apex Credit has declared Vale Enterprises in default of its four hundred million dollar short-term debt obligation due to a material breach of the liquidity covenant.”

Seraphina’s face went pale. “Default? That’s impossible! We have an agreement with Apex! We have another thirty days to restructure!”

“The restructuring clause was invalidated the moment you froze the company's secondary cash reserves to fund your personal real estate purchases in Monaco yesterday afternoon,” Marcus countered coldly. “Apex Credit has exercised its right to accelerate the debt. Since Vale Enterprises cannot pay, Apex has seized the entire voting control of the company's board, effective immediately.”

“You can’t do that!” Vivienne yelled, stepping around the table. “Who do you think you are? Do you know who my mother is?”

“I know exactly who your mother is,” Leo spoke for the first time. His voice was quiet, but it possessed a terrifying, chilling resonance that completely silenced the room. The reporters held their breath, their cameras capturing every second of the confrontation.

“And I know exactly who owns Apex Credit,” Leo continued, taking a slow step forward. He looked directly into Seraphina’s eyes, his gaze piercing through her facade like an ice pick. “My name is Leonard Vanguard. The 'garage boy' you mocked on my wife’s voicemail last night... owns the debt that supports your entire existence.”

A collective gasp echoed through the boardroom. The reporters began whispering furiously.

“Vanguard?” Seraphina whispered, her knees buckling as she sank back into her chair. “No... no, the head of the Vanguard Group is an old man, a recluse...”

May you like

“That was my grandfather,” Leo said coldly. “I took over operations three years ago. I choose to spend my time in an auto shop because I prefer the company of honest machines to the company of parasitic vipers like you.”

Leo leaned over the table, placing his palms flat on the wood, staring down at my stepmother. “You threw my wife out into a storm. You left her bleeding on a gravel driveway. You mocked her choice in a husband. Well, Seraphina... the storm has officially arrived. And you’re the one standing outside.”
