Chapter 8 - The Renewal

Two years later.
The annual summer festival in our town was in full swing.
Our estate's sunflower meadow was open to the public for the grand opening of The Sarah Vance Sanctuary for Hope—a state-of-the-art facility featuring counseling centers, emergency housing, and educational programs for victims of abuse.
Hundreds of local residents, state officials, and families gathered under the bright blue summer sky. Banners fluttered in the warm breeze, live acoustic music echoed across the hills, and children laughed as they ran through the rows of yellow sunflowers.
Standing on the wooden stage in front of the crowd was Sarah, holding a microphone.
She wasn't trembling. She stood tall, wearing a bright green summer dress, looking out at the crowd with confidence, strength, and grace.
"Ten years ago," Sarah spoke into the microphone, her voice clear and resonant, "I thought my life ended in a dark room beneath the earth. I thought no one could hear me. I thought love was a lie."
She paused, looking toward the front row, where Kristin and I stood with three-year-old Maya and Clara sitting on our shoulders.
"But love doesn't die in the dark," Sarah continued, her eyes glistening with happy tears. "It waits. It fights. And when it finds the light again, it breaks every chain."
The crowd erupted into resounding applause.
Kristin leaned against my shoulder, holding my hand tightly as we watched Sarah cut the ribbon, opening the doors of the sanctuary.

"Look, Daddy!" little Clara giggled from my shoulder, pointing up at the sky. "A rainbow!"
I looked up. A brilliant, double rainbow arched across the valley, painting the sky above our home in vibrant shades of gold, blue, and red.
