Chapter 9 - Legacy of Light

Five years later.
It was a quiet autumn evening. The leaves on the oak trees had turned brilliant shades of crimson and amber.
I sat on the wide front porch of our farmhouse, watching our daughters, now eight years old, riding their bicycles down the paved driveway with Sarah, who had become a certified art therapist at the sanctuary.
Kristin walked out through the double wooden doors, carrying two warm mugs of spiced apple cider. She sat down beside me on the porch swing, resting her head against my shoulder as the cool evening air wrapped around us.
"The doctor called today, Elias," Kristin said softly, a brilliant, radiant smile playing on her lips.
I turned to look at her, my heart skipping a beat. "And?"
Kristin reached into her sweater pocket, pulling out a small ultrasound photo, placing it gently into my palm.
"Baby number three," she whispered happily. "Due in April."
I stared at the tiny image, a flood of overwhelming joy and gratitude washing over my soul. I wrapped my arms around Kristin, pulling her tight against my heart, pressing my lips against hers in a long, sweet kiss.

"A new beginning," I breathed against her cheek.
"Our family's story didn't end in that shed, Elias," Kristin whispered, looking out at our daughters laughing with Sarah in the golden leaves. "We rewrote it."
