That evening, the center was lit with warm, welcoming light.

Over thirty women sat in the renovated dining room—women who had walked away from abusive homes, controlled bank accounts, and years of silent suffering. They were laughing, talking, and looking over financial plans that would give them back their independence.

Lena stood at the front of the room, explaining asset protection strategies, while I poured tea and served catered appetizers at the sideboard.

I paused for a moment, looking at the tray of stuffed mushrooms and small brioche rolls sitting on the silver platter. I smiled to myself, remembering the long list taped to my refrigerator a year ago.

Twenty dishes.

I had brought them all, just as I promised. But instead of serving a table of parasites who treated me like unpaid staff, I was serving a room full of survivors who were rebuilding their lives, step by step.

My phone chimed on the counter. It was a notification from my bank—a clean, independent account with my own name on the statement, completely untouched by anyone else.

I picked up a tray, walked into the middle of the room, and joined the conversation. The nightmare was over. My life was finally my own.
