Chapter 10 - Forever Served

The ballroom was dazzling.

Chandelier light danced across polished marble floors, classical strings echoed softly from the string quartet stationed near the terrace, and prominent figures from across New York City mingled easily, chatting over flutes of champagne and exquisite gourmet hors d'oeuvres.

At the center of it all stood Vincent Calder, dressed in an impeccably tailored black tuxedo, looking less like an underworld kingpin and more like a statesman who had finally found his peace.

By his side stood Lena, holding a small plate of her signature lemon tarts, laughing as Lily rushed past them with a handful of miniature pastries, chased by two laughing security guards.

Special Agent Daniel Vance of the FBI—the very man who had tried to raid the estate months earlier—stood near the edge of the room holding a glass of sparkling water. As Vincent walked past, Vance raised his glass in a silent, grudging gesture of acknowledgment.

Vincent nodded back, unbothered. The federal investigations had quietly stalled out months ago due to lack of credible evidence and the complete restructuring of the Calder legitimate business assets under Lena's strict auditing oversight.

Vincent stepped closer to Lena, wrapping a warm arm around her shoulders as they watched the room fill with life, laughter, and light.

"You saved my life, Lena," Vincent whispered softly, his dark eyes shining with deep, unvarnished devotion. "In every way that mattered."

Lena leaned into his side, looking up at the man who had once been feared by everyone in New York, but who now only held gentleness for her.

"I didn't save you, Vincent," Lena smiled, pressing her hand over his heart. "We just learned how to follow the right recipe."

The music swelled through the grand hall, blending with the laughter of children and the hum of a future built on truth, strength, and love. The plus-size chef had not only grabbed the mafia boss's plate from his hands; she had taken his broken world, seasoned it with courage, and baked it into a home that would last a lifetime.
