Chapter 9 - The Final Reckoning

By 6:00 PM that same evening, the executive boardroom on the eightieth floor of the Vance Tower in Manhattan was the scene of an absolute corporate execution.
Richard Thorne sat at the end of the long glass table, surrounded by federal financial investigators and Julian’s legal team. His briefcase was open, his documents scattered, and his offshore syndicate was officially bankrupt.
At the head of the table sat Julian Vance, his slate-grey suit pristine, his broad hands folded calmly over a thick blue dossier. Beside him sat Maya, looking every bit the ruthless legal strategist she had become.
"Richard," Julian spoke, his deep voice carrying a quiet, lethal authority that made the air in the room freeze. "You thought you could use my daughter as leverage to save your sister. You forgot one simple rule."
Julian leaned forward, his dark eyes locking onto Richard’s trembling face.
"When you attack my family, I don't just defend. I eradicate your presence from the market."
Arthur stepped forward, handing a set of federal arrest warrants to the two U.S. Marshals standing by the door.
"Richard Thorne," the lead marshal declared, "you are under arrest for federal market manipulation, corporate espionage, and attempted extortion."
Richard’s hands shook as the steel handcuffs clicked around his wrists. He looked at Julian, then at Maya, realization finally dawning on him that the Vance family was entirely untouchable.
"Take him away," Julian commanded without breaking eye contact.
As the marshals dragged Richard out of the boardroom, the disgraced former board members who had allied with him sat in petrified silence, staring down at their hands.
Maya turned to her father, a small, triumphant smile gracing her lips. "That closes the final chapter of the Thorne family, Dad."

Julian reached over, taking her hand gently in his, his expression softening instantly into one of profound fatherly love. "You executed that short-squeeze brilliantly, Maya. Your mother would have been so proud of the woman you've become."
"She would be proud of us," Maya whispered softly, squeezing his hand.
