Chapter 10 - The Master's House

Two years later.
The quiet, golden tranquility of a summer evening settled over the Greenwich estate.
The grand library, where so many dark secrets had once been plotted in the shadows, was now a warm, sunlit family room filled with comfortable leather couches, wall-to-wall books, and warm soft rugs.
Adrian sat in a large wingback chair near the fireplace, holding a thick architectural blueprint for a new children's hospital in Manhattan.
Mara walked into the room, wearing a soft white silk dress, holding a small velvet box in her hands.
She walked up to his chair, sitting on the wide leather armrest beside him, resting her hand against his shoulder.
"What's this?" Adrian asked, looking at the velvet box with a warm, curious smile.
"Open it," Mara murmured gently.
Adrian unlocked the small brass clasp and lifted the lid.
Inside rested a simple, polished silver napkin ring—the very napkin ring Mara had held in her hand on the rain-black Tuesday when she threw the tray at Victor’s face.
Engraved along the inner curve of the silver was a single line in fine script:
To the man who remembered how to live.
Adrian looked from the silver ring up into Mara’s beautiful, radiant dark eyes. His heart filled with an overwhelming, limitless love that washed away every remaining shadow of his past.
"You saved me, Mara," Adrian whispered, taking her hand and pulling her down into his lap.
"We saved each other, Adrian," Mara corrected softly, wrapping her arms around his neck, resting her forehead against his.

Adrian leaned forward, pressing his lips against hers in a deep, passionate, life-affirming kiss that sealed their past, their present, and their infinite future together.
Outside the tall library windows, the stars shone brightly in the clear night sky, illuminating a house built no longer on grief and poison, but on truth, courage, and an everlasting love.
