Chapter 3 - Blood and Steel

By midnight, Nathan’s multi-story penthouse overlooking Central Park was secured like a fortress. Armed guards monitored every entrance, while inside, Dr. Evans completed a gentle physical evaluation of the twins. Aside from mild malnutrition and minor bruises, Lily and Maya were healthy, though thoroughly exhausted.

Nathan sat in his dimly lit study, staring at a silver-framed photograph of Julian on his desk.

The door opened silently, and Vance stepped inside. His face was grim.

"Report," Nathan said, his voice dropping into icy composure.

"We swept the Brooklyn apartment, sir," Vance said softly. "The place was ransacked. Signs of a struggle. Blood on the hardwood, but no body. We found shell casings from a suppressed pistol. Whomever Davidson sent, they cleared out before we arrived."

Nathan’s jaw tightened until the bone burned. "Is she dead?"

"We can't confirm that yet, boss. No body means there's a chance she was taken for leverage. Davidson doesn't know you have the girls yet, but he knows Clara escaped or was taken. His men are combing the city."

At that moment, Dr. Evans walked into the room, holding a digital tablet.

"The rapid DNA results are in, Nathan," the doctor said quietly. "I cross-referenced the hair samples from the girls with the family genetic record on file."

He handed the tablet to Nathan. The screen flashed bright green: 99.98% Kinship Match - Direct Offspring of Julian Collins.

Nathan stared at the numbers. The proof was absolute. These helpless, brilliant little girls carrying crushed wildflowers were his own blood—the rightful heirs to half of the Collins empire.

Suddenly, the heavy oak door of the penthouse suite buzzed. The security panel flashed red.

"Sir," Marcus’s voice came over the intercom. "Robert Davidson is downstairs in the lobby. He claims he needs an urgent midnight signature for the European merger. He brought four armed security guards with him."

Nathan stood up, pulling his jacket back on. His eyes hardened like cold steel.

"Let him up," Nathan said calmly. "It’s time to look my father's killer in the eye."
