Chapter 9 - Healing the Scars

Six months later.

Spring had come to the Hudson Valley. Blackwood Estate was no longer a cold, sterile fortress; it was alive with laughter, flower beds, and the bright sound of children playing.

The news of Robert Davidson’s arrest and the unraveling of his corporate syndicate had rocked the financial world, but Nathan had managed the fallout with masterclass precision. He purged the corrupt board members, restructured Collins Enterprises into an ethical powerhouse, and established a multi-billion-dollar foundation in Julian’s name to support orphaned children and victims of corporate crime.

On the manicured lawns of the estate, Lily and Maya were chasing a golden retriever puppy that Nathan had bought them for their seventh birthday. Their cheeks were rosy with health, their smiles bright and unburdened by fear.

Clara sat on the sunlit terrace, sipping tea. She looked restored, vibrant, and elegant in a cream-colored sweater, though the warmth in her eyes was reserved entirely for her family.

Nathan walked out onto the terrace, carrying two cups of coffee, and sat beside her.

"The final legal paperwork came through today," Nathan said, handing her a folder. "Julian’s share of the estate has been fully transferred into a trust for the girls. They are officially recognized as the primary shareholders of Collins Enterprises."

Clara looked at the documents, then up at Nathan. "Thank you, Nathan. Not just for the money... but for giving them a life. Giving us a home."

Nathan smiled softly, leaning back against the outdoor sofa. The coldness that had defined his existence for thirty-five years had completely melted away.

"They gave me a life, too, Clara," Nathan confessed truthfully. "Before they showed up at that cemetery, I was just a ghost sitting in an empty castle."
