Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

An hour later, a heavy storm hit Manhattan. Torrential rain lashed against the rusted steel roof of Pier 42 as Nathan stepped out of his car into the dark, cavernous warehouse.

The air smelled of sea salt, rust, and ozone.

In the center of the vast space, Clara was tied to a wooden chair beneath a harsh, hanging floodlight. Her face was bruised, her clothes torn, but her eyes were fierce with defiance.

Standing beside her was Robert Davidson, holding a silenced pistol, flanked by six heavily armed mercenaries.

"You brought the drive, Nathan?" Davidson called out over the pounding rain.

Nathan walked forward calmly, stopping twenty feet away. He pulled the black flash drive from his coat pocket, holding it up between two fingers.

"It’s all here, Robert," Nathan said, his voice cold and steady. "Every murder, every bribe, every dirty dollar. My father kept meticulous records."

Davidson chuckled dark, dryly. "Old William. Always keeping insurance. Hand it over, Nathan, and maybe I'll let you live to run the company as my puppet."

"You killed my brother," Nathan said, taking a step closer, his eyes burning with lethal intent. "You threatened two innocent six-year-old girls."

"Julian was weak!" Davidson spat. "He didn't have the stomach for what it takes to build a real global power! And those little brats are loose ends. Where are they, Nathan? Tell me, or I put a bullet through Clara’s head right now!"

Davidson raised the gun, aiming it directly at Clara’s forehead.

Clara screamed, "Don't tell him, Nathan! Protect my daughters!"

Nathan didn't flinch. He smiled—a cold, terrifying smile that made Davidson’s finger pause on the trigger.

"You made one critical mistake, Robert," Nathan said quietly.

"Oh? And what’s that?"

"You assumed I came alone."
