Chapter 8 - The Italian Sun

Six months later.
The gentle Mediterranean breeze blew through the olive trees on the rolling hills of Tuscany, carrying the sweet scent of wild lavender and cypress.
Nestled near the top of the hill sat a magnificent villa with warm terracotta tiles, wide stone terraces, and floor-to-ceiling french doors that opened out onto a sparkling turquoise swimming pool.
This was the original Han family estate in Italy—a place that had once been a fortress of mafia business, but had now been completely renovated into a sun-drenched family sanctuary.
Down in the grassy courtyard, two seven-year-olds were running wildly, chasing a golden retriever puppy that Alexander had bought for their birthday two weeks ago.
"Catch him, Kieran!" Kyla shouted, her dark hair flying behind her as she giggled helplessly. "He stole my shoe again!"
"I'm on it!" Kieran yelled back, diving onto the soft grass and gently scooping the playful puppy into his arms.
Up on the wide stone terrace, Mary sat in a comfortable wicker armchair, sipping a glass of freshly pressed peach lemonade. She wore a breezy white linen sundress, her skin glowing with health and happiness under the warm Tuscan sun.
Beside her, Alexander sat at a wrought-iron table, reviewing architectural blueprints for a new children's hospital the Han Foundation was funding in Florence.
He looked entirely different from the cold, intimidating mob boss who had walked into the Seoul gala six months ago. He wore casual linen clothes, his dark hair soft and unstyled, his face relaxed and filled with a serene, unshakeable contentment.
"Alexander," Mary said softly, looking out over the olive groves.
He looked up immediately, his eyes filled with warmth. "Yes, darling?"
"Did Daniel finish the paperwork for the foundation's new educational trust?"
"It was signed this morning," Alexander replied, leaning back in his chair and smiling. "We've allocated ten million Euros to support single mothers and orphanages across Southern Europe. Nobody will ever suffer the way you suffered five years ago, Mary. I'll make sure of it."
Mary set her glass down and walked over to him, sliding onto his lap. Alexander wrapped his arms securely around her waist, pulling her close against his chest.
"You've done so much, Alexander," Mary whispered, resting her head against his shoulder. "Look at them down there."
They both looked down at the courtyard, where Kieran and Kyla were now sitting on the grass, carefully putting Kyla's shoe back on while the puppy licked Kieran's cheek, making both children burst into fits of joyful laughter.
"They're whole now," Alexander said softly, pressing a kiss to Mary's hair. "And so am I."
Elena Vance—who had resigned from her security post to become the children's full-time private tutor and protector—walked out onto the terrace carrying a tray of fresh fruits and pastries.
"Mr. Han, Madam," Elena bowed slightly, a rare, genuine smile touching her lips. "Detective Miller from Seoul called to report that the final asset transfers from the Chen estate have been finalized. The entire legal team has cleared your name of any historical involvement."
"Thank you, Elena," Alexander said warmly. "Please, join us for lunch today. You've earned a seat at our table."
Elena blinked in mild surprise, then bowed her head deeply. "It would be an honor, sir."
As Elena walked back toward the kitchen, Kieran and Kyla came running up the stone steps, the puppy tumbling along behind them.
"Mommy! Daddy!" Kyla shouted, breathlessly leaning against Alexander’s knee. "Kieran and I made a decision!"
Alexander raised an eyebrow, exchanging an amused glance with Mary. "Oh? What kind of decision?"
Kieran stepped forward, his small face serious, though his dark eyes were shining with excitement. "We decided that since we're twins and we have the best villa in the whole world... we need a baby brother now!"
Mary burst into laughter, her face flushing bright red.
May you like
Alexander let out a booming laugh, picking up both Kieran and Kyla and pulling them into a massive, warm family hug on the terrace. "A baby brother, huh? Well, that's a conversation you'll have to negotiate with your mother!"
"Alexander!" Mary swatted his shoulder playfully, her eyes dancing with joy and love.
