Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Empire
Three weeks passed. The fallout from the investigation spread through the upper management of Vance Logistics like a wildfire.
Without the protective shell of Arthur’s corporate influence, the true extent of Kyle’s incompetence was revealed. Auditors discovered that Kyle had not only embezzled funds through Apex Maritime, but he had also signed disastrous, high-risk freight contracts with predatory logistics partners to cover up missed quarterly targets.
The company was bleeding cash, down thirty percent in valuation, and facing immediate bankruptcy.
On a cold Monday morning, Clara walked into the executive boardroom of Vance Logistics, taking her seat at the head of the long table as Interim CEO. Surrounding her were the remaining board members and senior department heads, all looking pale, exhausted, and desperate.
"We have three days before the major credit facilities default," Richard Sterling reported, rubbing his temples. "If we can't secure twenty million dollars in capital injection, Vance Logistics goes into receivership. We'll be liquidated."
"The company will not be liquidated," Clara stated with absolute authority.
She opened a leather portfolio and pushed a stack of legal documents into the center of the table.
"Over the past two weeks, the Donald Vance Trust has restructured its holdings," Clara explained. "I have secured an independent private equity partnership with Global Heritage Capital. We are prepared to inject thirty million dollars in fresh capital into Vance Logistics today."
A wave of audible relief swept through the room. Board members gasped, looking at each other in disbelief.
"On one condition," Clara added, her voice chilling the room back into silence.
"Name it," Sterling said immediately. "Anything."
"A complete corporate reorganization," Clara said. "The shares owned by Arthur Vance and Kyle Vance will be diluted down to zero to satisfy the restitution debts owed to the company. They will have no voting rights, no board seats, no retirement pensions, and no future association with this firm. Vance Logistics will be rebranded as Lily Freight & Supply Chain Management."
"What about Arthur?" one older board member asked quietly. "He founded this firm with your grandfather."
"Arthur Vance stood by while the firm was robbed from the inside," Clara replied without a second of hesitation. "He prioritized toxic favoritism over fiduciary duty. His tenure is over."
The board members looked at each other. One by one, hands began to raise around the table.
"All in favor?" Sterling called out.

Clara stood up, smoothing her jacket. She walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window overlooking the Chicago skyline. For the first time in her life, the empire built on her grandfather's legacy wasn't owned by men who trampled over her—it was built on a foundation of absolute justice, held firmly in her hands.
