Chapter 10 - The House of Smiles

Six months later.
The Romano estate had undergone a transformation that left Boston’s underworld and high society alike in absolute shock.
The cold, forbidding fortress of stone and armed guards now echoed with the sound of laughter, footsteps, and the sweet smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
In the sunlit courtyard, beneath a sprawling arbor of white roses, a small, elegant wedding ceremony was taking place. There were no mob bosses, no federal agents, and no flashing police sirens. Just Eleanor Romano smiling proudly from the front row, Grant Keller standing tall as the best man, and a handful of trusted friends.
Claire stood under the floral arch wearing a simple, breathtaking ivory dress, her eyes shining with unshed tears of absolute joy.
And standing before her was Vincent. No longer dressed in the intimidating black suits of a ruthless executioner, he wore a tailored navy tuxedo, his dark eyes fixed entirely on the woman who had breathed life back into his frozen soul.
Standing right between them, holding a small velvet pillow with two gleaming platinum rings, was five-year-old Rosie in a matching white flower-girl dress.
The officiant smiled warmly. "Do you, Vincent, take Claire to be your lawful wedded wife, to love, honor, and cherish through all the days of your life?"
Vincent looked down at Claire, a rare, radiant smile breaking across his face—a smile that swept away every remaining shadow of the past four years.
"I do," Vincent said firmly.
The officiant turned to Claire. "And do you, Claire, take Vincent to be your lawful wedded husband..."
"I do," Claire answered, her voice ringing clear and steady through the garden.
"With the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Vincent, you may kiss your bride."
Vincent gently pulled back Claire’s veil and kissed her—not with the desperate urgency of a man clinging to survival, but with the deep, enduring tenderness of a man who had finally found his way home.
The small crowd burst into applause and cheers.
Rosie hopped up and down, clapping her hands excitedly. As Vincent pulled back from Claire, he felt a small tug on his trouser leg.
He looked down. Rosie was holding up her arms, a massive grin on her face.
Vincent didn't hesitate. He scooped the little girl up into his arms, resting her against his shoulder right alongside Claire, who leaned her head against his chest.
Rosie wrapped her arms around his neck, patting his cheek affectionately.
"Can we go eat cake now... Daddy?"
The word slipped out naturally, effortlessly, like it had always belonged there.
Vincent froze for a fraction of a second, the sheer weight of the title washing over him with overwhelming warmth. He looked at Claire, whose eyes were swimming with happy tears, and then back at the little girl who had walked into his office with a butterfly brush and changed his universe forever.

"Yes, sweetheart," Vincent whispered, kissing the top of Rosie's head before pressing another kiss to Claire's lips. "Let's go home."
The fortress of Boston was no longer a monument to death and fear. It was a house of smiles, a sanctuary of survival, and a true home.
