Chapter 5 - The Trap is Set

Norah grabbed Vincent’s lapels, her eyes wide with panic. "Vincent, no! You can't go there alone! It's a trap! They want to kill you so they can take over everything!"
"I know it's a trap, mia bella," Vincent said, his voice softening as he placed his hands over hers. "But they made a fatal error. They think I am a man who negotiates when my family is threatened. They don't realize that they haven't backed me into a corner—they have just given me a reason to remove them from the board entirely."
He signaled to Luca, who was already pulling up tactical maps on the digital screens. "Call the captains. I want three strike teams positioned at the Brooklyn docks by ten o'clock. We aren't trading deeds tonight. We are conducting an execution."
"What about Derek?" Norah asked, her voice trembling at the mention of her abusive ex. "He's fueling their anger."
"Derek is a dead man walking," Vincent said coldly. "The moment he allowed his fingers to touch your skin, his fate was sealed. Tonight, he learns the true price of his arrogance."
Before he left, Vincent took Norah into his arms, kissing her with a desperate, burning passion that left her breathless. He placed his hand over her stomach, closing his eyes for a brief moment as if drawing strength from the life they had created together.

"Stay in the panic room with the secondary guard unit until I return," Vincent commanded. "No matter what you hear on the news, do not doubt me. I will come back to you, Norah. I always do."
As the convoy of black SUVs roared out of the estate gates into the rainy New York night, Norah stood by the window, clutching her stomach, praying that the father of her child would survive the storm he was about to unleash.
