Chapter 9 - The New Dawn

One year later.
Spring had returned to Boston, bringing mild breezes, bright green leaves, and clear blue skies.
In Jamaica Plain, the Victorian house was alive with color, warmth, and music. The windows that had once been broken during the attack were now open to the fresh air, lace curtains fluttering gently in the breeze.
In the back garden, a grand wooden pergola had been decorated with white roses, twinkling fairy lights, and sheer silk drapes.
Seated on wooden chairs on the lawn were sixty guests—former business associates who had successfully transitioned into legal real estate, neighbors from Jamaica Plain, teachers from St. Clara’s, and Dr. Aris Thorne.
Standing at the altar under the pergola was Matteo Reichi.
He looked striking in a crisp midnight-blue tuxedo, his hair neatly styled, his dark eyes filled with a radiant, peaceful warmth that no one in Boston’s underworld would have ever recognized. Beside him stood Vincent, serving as his best man, wearing a proud, ear-to-ear grin.
Soft violin music began to play across the lawn.
The crowd stood up.
Walking down the petal-strewn aisle was eight-year-old Emma, wearing a lovely pink flower-girl dress with a crown of baby’s breath in her dark curls. She carried a basket of rose petals, throwing them joyfully into the air, beaming at Matteo as she walked.
Behind her came Sarah.
Matteo’s breath caught in his throat.
Sarah was magnificent. She wore a fitted lace wedding gown with a flowing train that caught the afternoon sunlight. Her blonde hair was styled in soft waves, and her hazel eyes were locked onto Matteo’s face with pure, radiant love.
As her hand was placed in Matteo’s, Sarah smiled up at him, her eyes glistening with happy tears.
"You look beautiful," Matteo whispered softly, taking her hand and pressing a gentle kiss to her knuckles.
"You don't look too bad yourself, Mr. Reichi," Sarah teased softly.
The minister stepped forward, his voice echoing warmly across the garden.
"Friends and family," the minister began. "We are gathered here today to unite Matteo and Sarah in holy matrimony. Their journey to this day was not brought about by chance, but by a miracle—a moment of grace that brought two courageous souls together to heal one another."
The minister turned to Matteo. "Matteo, do you take Sarah to be your wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do you part?"
Matteo looked into Sarah’s eyes, his voice clear, strong, and filled with absolute conviction.
"I do," Matteo said.
"And Sarah," the minister turned to her. "Do you take Matteo to be your wedded husband?"
"I do," Sarah answered without a second’s hesitation.
"May we have the rings?"
Emma stepped forward, proudly holding out a velvet box containing two matching platinum bands.
Matteo picked up the delicate women’s ring, slipping it onto Sarah’s finger. "With this ring, Sarah, I give you my heart, my life, and my protection forever."
Sarah picked up the men’s ring, slipping it onto Matteo’s finger. "With this ring, Matteo, I give you my home, my love, and my soul forever."
"By the power vested in me," the minister smiled broadly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"
Matteo didn't wait. He wrapped his arms around Sarah’s waist, pulling her flush against his chest, and dipped her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate, joyful kiss.

The entire garden erupted in wild cheers, applause, and whistles.
When Matteo stood up, he lifted Emma into his arm, holding Sarah close with his other hand. The three of them stood together under the white roses, surrounded by love, sunlight, and cheering friends.
