Chapter 8 - Rebuilding the Light

With the darkness of the past finally buried, Lana focused her energy on transforming Sullivan Global Logistics into a beacon of positive change.
She officially renamed the company Gallagher-Hayes Maritime, signaling a new era of integrity, clean business, and community support.
Under her leadership, the company established the Leo Gallagher Foundation—a two-hundred-million-dollar charity dedicated to funding medical research for rare terminal illnesses and providing free healthcare to underprivileged families in Chicago.
Meanwhile, Brennan kept his word.
He systematically dismantled the criminal side of the Hayes syndicate, transferring all illegal operations into legitimate security firms, logistics networks, and real estate trusts. The feared mob boss transformed into one of the city’s most respected corporate titans and philanthropists.
One warm afternoon in May, Lana stood in the sunlit courtyard of St. Jude’s Emergency Hospital—the very hospital where she had once worked twelve-hour night shifts as a humble nurse.
Beside her stood Brennan, holding a giant ceremonial ribbon.
In front of hundreds of doctors, nurses, news reporters, and city officials, Lana cut the ribbon to open the Lana Gallagher Emergency Wing—a state-of-the-art trauma center built entirely with funds from her estate.
The hospital director stepped forward, tears in his eyes. “Mrs. Gallagher... four years ago, you were working for twenty dollars an hour in these hallways. Today, you’ve given this city the greatest gift it has ever received.”
Lana smiled warmly, looking out at the crowd of young nurses wearing the same scrubs she used to wear.
“Mercy isn't something you buy,” Lana said into the microphone, her voice echoing across the courtyard. “It’s something you give when people need it most. Never forget the value of a single human life.”
As the crowd applauded, Brennan reached out, wrapping his arm around her waist, pulling her close to his side.
“You continue to amaze me every single day, Mrs. Hayes,” Brennan whispered, kissing her temple.

Lana looked up at him, her eyes sparkling with happiness. “Mrs. Hayes? We aren't married yet, Don Hayes.”
Brennan’s dark eyes flashed with a playful, fierce heat. “That, my sweet Lana, is being corrected tonight.”
