Chapter 9 - The Vow on the Lake

That evening, the grand estate overlooking Lake Michigan was transformed into a paradise of white roses, twinkling fairy lights, and classical music.
It was a private, intimate wedding—attended only by true friends, honest board members, Victor, and the medical staff from St. Jude’s who had supported Lana through her darkest days.
The sun was setting over the calm, blue waters of the lake, casting a golden glow over the white marble altar built on the edge of the cliff.
Brennan stood at the altar, wearing a tailored black tuxedo. He looked impossibly handsome, his tall frame radiating strength, but his eyes were fixed entirely on the path leading from the manor.
The violin music swelled.
Walking down the white-petal aisle was Lana.
She wore a breathtaking lace wedding gown with a sweeping train, her dark hair crowned with small white orchids. She held a simple bouquet of white lilies—not the cold, ostentatious flowers Beatrice Sullivan had chosen, but warm, vibrant blossoms that symbolized rebirth and pure love.
When she reached the altar, Brennan took her hands in his. His large fingers trembled slightly—a man who had never feared death, shaken by the overwhelming beauty of the woman standing before him.
The priest began the ceremony, but when it came time for the vows, Brennan stepped closer, looking directly into Lana’s eyes.
“Lana,” Brennan said, his voice deep, raspy, and full of raw emotion. “Four years ago, you saved my heart when it was completely broken. You showed me that humanity existed in a world I thought was only made of shadows. I swore to protect you out of debt... but I fell in love with your strength, your mercy, and your beautiful soul. I promise to spend the rest of my life honoring you, protecting you, and loving you with everything I have.”
Lana wiped a tear of joy from her cheek, smiling radiantly.
“Brennan,” Lana whispered, her voice steady and clear. “When I was beaten, bleeding, and left in the rain with nothing to my name, you brought me into your light. You didn't just give me justice; you gave me a home. You showed me that love isn't a cage—it’s a shield. My heart belongs to you, forever.”
Brennan reached into his vest pocket and pulled out a new ring.
It was a stunning, flawless platinum band set with a brilliant blue sapphire that matched the color of the lake at twilight. Inside the band was engraved a single phrase: My Debt, My Heart, My Forever.
Brennan slid the ring onto her finger, bowing his head to press a tender kiss to her knuckles.
“By the power vested in me,” the priest announced with a warm smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
