Chapter 10 - The Sunshine of Tomorrow

Eight months later.

Spring had arrived in Boston. The bitter ocean wind had softened into a warm breeze, bringing the scent of blooming cherry blossoms and fresh green grass across the city.

In a quiet suburban neighborhood of Wellesley, miles away from the dark alleys of South Boston and the cold stone of Vale Holdings, sat a beautiful two-story white house with a wide wrap-around porch and a spacious garden.

In the backyard, laughter filled the afternoon air.

Sophie, now six years old, was running through the grass in a bright summer dress, chasing a gold retriever puppy that tumbled over its own paws.

Sitting on the porch steps were Dominic and Claire.

Dominic looked vastly different. He wore a simple navy sweater and jeans. The cold, lethal edge that had defined his face for decades had softened into an air of calm, profound peace.

Over the last six months, Dominic had systematically liquidated Vale Holdings' criminal enterprises, handing over evidence on rival syndicate networks to federal authorities through anonymous intermediaries, transforming the family business into a fully legitimate international shipping and real estate development firm run by Noah Grant.

He was no longer the feared mob boss of Boston. He was simply Dominic Vale—a man who had chosen a different path.

"Noah called this morning," Claire said, sipping an iced tea and leaning her head against Dominic’s shoulder. "He said the new wing of Harbor House in Dorchester is fully built. They're naming the library after Danielle."

Dominic smiled softly, reaching out to wrap his arm around Claire’s waist, pulling her close and kissing her auburn hair. "She would have liked that."

"And your father?" Claire asked gently.

Dominic looked up at the clear blue sky. "I visited his grave yesterday. For the first time, I didn't feel angry. I think... I think he finally got his wish."

"Which was?"

"That I would become a better man than he ever was," Dominic said softly.

Suddenly, Sophie came running up the wooden porch steps, the puppy barking playfully at her heels. She held up a bright yellow drawing covered in colorful flowers, a big red heart, and three stick figures holding hands under a bright yellow sun.

"Look, Dominic! Look, Claire!" Sophie shouted happily, presenting her masterpiece. "It’s us! And the roof is so big that the rain can never get us again!"

Dominic reached down, lifting Sophie effortlessly into his arms, holding her high as she giggled with joy. Claire stood up beside them, wrapping her arms around both of them.

Dominic looked at the child in his arms, then at the woman beside him, feeling a warmth in his chest that no amount of wealth or power could ever buy.

The rain had finally stopped. The dark storm of his past was over. And for the first time in his life, Dominic Vale was home.
