Chapter 6 - The Rebuilding

The next few months were a time of healing for the hospital. The new administration was focused on patient care, transparency, and integrity. The pediatric wing, under my leadership, became a model for the entire city.
I found myself working alongside Julian more and more. Our professional partnership blossomed into something else—a mutual respect that grew into a deep, steady affection. He saw me for who I was, not for what he could get from me.
One evening, after a long shift, we sat in his office, looking out over the city lights.
"You're happy," he said.
"I am," I replied, feeling it for the first time in years. "I'm doing the work I love, with people I respect."
He turned to me, his expression softening. "And the personal side?"
