Chapter 9 - The Fall of the House of Arthur

The crowd erupted into frantic whispers and gasps. Chloe looked at Arthur, panic writing itself across her face. "Arthur! What is going on? Do something!"
I walked up to the altar, standing tall. I plugged a small transmitter into the chapel’s state-of-the-art sound system.
"Before this wedding proceeds," I said, my voice echoing through the speakers for all three hundred guests to hear, "I think the guests should hear a message from my daughter, Rose."
I pressed play on my phone.
The speakers didn't play music. They played Arthur’s voice, clear and monstrous, detailing how he was replacing Rose's medication, how he was going to dump his daughters in foster care, and how he and Chloe had planned her "timely passing" to secure her family's wealth.
"She's almost gone, Chloe," Arthur's recorded voice whispered. "The doctors suspect nothing. Once the funeral is over, we'll get the girls to sign the trust, put them in a home, and the money is ours. We deserve this."
Chloe screamed, covering her ears. Her father, who was sitting in the front row, stood up, his face red with fury and betrayal. "Arthur! You monster! What did you do?!"
"It's a lie! It's an AI fabrication!" Arthur screamed, backing away toward the edge of the altar.
But the FBI agents were already climbing the steps.
"Arthur Pendelton, you are under arrest for first-degree murder, federal wire fraud, and embezzlement," the lead agent declared, slamming Arthur onto the pristine white altar and clicking the handcuffs around his wrists.
Chloe was grabbed next, her designer dress tearing as she screamed and kicked, cursed by the very crowd that had came to celebrate her.

As Arthur was dragged down the aisle in handcuffs, he passed his three daughters. Lucy looked him dead in the eye.
"You wanted a fresh start," Lucy said softly, but loud enough for him to hear. "Have fun starting over in prison."
