Chapter 10 - A New Dawn
Six months later, the green lawns of my backyard were bathed in warm, golden Georgia sunshine.
Arthur’s trial had been swift. Confronted with the overwhelming physical evidence of the thallium poisoning and Rose's meticulous financial records, he had pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty. He was sentenced to life without parole. Chloe received twenty years for her complicity in the fraud and conspiracy.
The court had officially granted me full, permanent custody of the girls. Rose's trust fund was completely restored and secured under a legal block that only the girls could access when they turned twenty-five.
But we didn't care about the money.
We had built a new garden in my backyard, filled with vibrant red and pink roses.
April was running through the sprinkler, her giggles echoing through the air—a sound we hadn't heard in what felt like a lifetime. Rachel sat on the porch, sketching a beautiful, smiling portrait of her mother, a peaceful expression finally on her face.
Lucy walked over to me, holding two glasses of sweet iced tea. She handed one to me and looked out at her sisters.
"We did it, Grandpa," she said softly, a genuine, beautiful smile gracing her lips. "Mom can finally rest."

I pulled her close, kissing the top of her head. "Yes, we did, sweetheart. And from now on, nothing but love is going to live in this family."
For the first time in a very long time, the shadow was gone. The future was bright, and we were finally home.
