Chapter 10 - The Legacy

Three years later.

A warm spring afternoon swept over the vast green gardens of the Vale country estate outside the city.

A wooden picnic table sat beneath the shade of a massive oak tree, laden with fresh fruits, lemonade, and homemade pastries.

Eve sat on the wooden bench, wearing a casual floral sundress, her face glowing with happiness as she watched two young children chasing a golden retriever across the green grass.

Her three-year-old son, Thomas—named after Sebastian’s late father—was running as fast as his small legs could carry him, holding a plastic toy airplane, while Sebastian walked right behind him, ready to catch him if he stumbled.

Sebastian picked the little boy up effortlessly, throwing him into the air until the child let out a loud, delighted burst of laughter, before settling him onto his shoulders.

Sebastian walked over to the picnic table, sitting beside Eve, placing one arm around her waist and pulling her close.

"He has your energy," Sebastian sighed happily, kissing Eve’s temple as little Thomas played with his father’s hair.

"And he has your eyes," Eve smiled, reaching up to gently stroke her son’s cheek.

In the distance, a black sedan pulled up the long gravel driveway.

The car door opened, and Celeste Rowan stepped out. She was wearing a professional blazer and trousers, carrying a thick binder of operational reports. Over the last three years, she had completed her service, earned a degree in non-profit management, and was now the full-time Deputy Director of the Mercer-Vale Health Initiative.

"Good afternoon, Vales!" Celeste called out warmly as she walked up the stone path, holding up the binder. "I brought the quarterly expansion plans for the new northern clinic!"

"Celeste!" little Thomas giggled, reaching down from Sebastian's shoulders.

"Hey there, little captain," Celeste smiled, coming over to press a affectionate high-five into the toddler's small palm. She looked at Eve and Sebastian, her expression relaxed, happy, and full of deep respect. "Am I interrupting family time?"

"Never," Eve said, standing up to give her a warm hug. "Sit down, have some lemonade. The reports can wait until Monday."

"Agreed," Sebastian said, setting Thomas down onto the grass where the boy immediately returned to playing with the dog.

As they sat together under the warm spring sun, sharing cold drinks and simple laughter, Eve looked at her family, her husband, and the woman who had once been her worst enemy, now a trusted partner in building something meaningful.

She felt Sebastian’s hand find hers beneath the table, his fingers intertwining with hers with familiar, unbreakable strength.

Eve turned her head to look at him.

He was watching her with the same fierce, protective devotion he had shown the night he walked across that marble floor, removed his tuxedo jacket, and placed it around her broken dress.

There were no more crowds staring.

There were no more cameras flashing.

There was only the quiet, permanent truth of a love that had stood against the storm and built a legacy that would last forever.
