Chapter 7 - Breaking the Code

Behind the curtain, Marcus moved with silent efficiency, neutralizing the rogue waiter before he could touch the trigger switch. Rosa stepped into the AV control booth, her hands steady as she picked up the signal interceptor Marcus had given her.

"Connecting interceptor now," Rosa whispered into her mic. She plugged the device directly into the hijacked feed, replacing the syndicate's blackmailed video archive with the master file they had prepared.

On stage, Arthur Vance’s face turned gray. He reached into his coat pocket for his secondary remote control, frantically tapping the screen to force the broadcast, believing he was about to play compromising intimate footage of Victoria to every high-society figure in New York.

"Tonight," Sebastian continued from the podium, "we present a short documentary on the lengths to which corporate extortionists will go to steal what does not belong to them."

The massive digital projection screens spanning the ballroom flickered to life.

Instead of Victoria, the screen displayed high-definition, crystal-clear footage of Arthur Vance himself inside the Chicago penthouse three weeks earlier, wearing latex gloves, unscrewing the ceiling vents, and mounting micro-cameras while speaking on his encrypted phone about setting up the extortion trap for his syndicate handlers.
